The EB/MM plastic hardshell case is one of my favorites. To me, it's much better than a gig bag. I even like it much better than the vintage, LE, or BFR cases. I checked out the EB gig bag but it didn't appear safe enough for me.

I like my EBMM gig bag. I'm playing in the orchestra for a local play, and it really helps to be able to sling it over my shoulder when I'm carting my gear into the theater for practice. I've noticed no scratches. Knock on wood.

I like mine for taking my guitar places locally. They're more convenient and much easier than the cases. If I was gigging with them that would be something else though... If it's going to be with me at all times, the gig bag is the way to go.
In fact I like mine so much that I'm bringing it to Desert Domination, empty, and if "things" work out it could come back with something inside of it.

Ah, missed it by a week - last Tuesday I met up with a fellow forumite in downtown TO to pass my gigbag along, after it sat unused for ages and ages in storage...I, too, prefer hardshell cases to gigbags, so I let it go to someone who will make good use of it.

By the way, is it possible in any way that a new Ball could have come with an EB gigbag and no hardcase? The '99 (I think) Silo Spec. in my signature arrived that way, just wondering if the original owner had switched to the bag or if it came like that from the factory.

I used to be a big fan of gig bags - until I came across the rectangular hard foam zip up cases. When I was working in Belfast the other week I saw them for sale made by Stagg for £25. I know that Candid X has used similar and they are great - you can sling them over your shoulder like a gig bag too!
I have seen gig bags put microscopic swirl scratches in the finish.
Also I remember that on the Bass forum someone said that they had used a gig bag for their bass and it has caused some damage - marks in a particular place on the bass. He used the gig bag again and the same thing happened - marks in the same place.
If the guitar is a workhorse and you don't mind a ding, scratch or mark then a gig bag is fine.
However if you want to keep your guitar mint I (personally) wouldn't use one.

I would never use a gig bag!
I doubt EBMM gigbags are gonna hurt your guitar. They're from the same guys who make 'em in the first place. That's like saying Slinkies don't work on MMs.
For the longest of times I didn't know EBMM made gigbags. I thought those were just from the old MM days. For sure I'm gonna get me one!

Anything is possible, but since at least 1999 when I started at the company, we have shipped all guitars in cases.
I use a gig bag all the time, and I find it much easier to use than a hardshell. Of course, in my situation where I play mostly at church, I know the chances of it getting damaged are slimmer than at some other gigs where I might opt for the hardshell.
