Lately it's come up here a few times that AL necks are the fattest. Is this pretty much across the board (no pun intended), or are these exceptions?

No - they are not really fat. They do feel a bit thicker finger to thumb than the silo special which I know feels right to you, and which is why I haven't fully bonded with my sil spec and prefer the AL. To me, it's closer to the Axis neck in thickness and feel

But it is no 50's LP. And it's thinner than my old Reverend which was based on a '63 strat I believe.

Combined with the nut width, which is relatively narrow on all but the JP models, all Music Man necks have a somewhat small overall feel to me. I also have fairly large hands. But with the variety of responses and personal subtleties and differences people reference in these threads, my best advice is to try it.

Here's spud's old diagram

No. Not fat at all. I am 1.8m tall or 6 ft tall. I dont have the luxury to try out many brands and types of guitars to compare. But I can tell you - you WILL like the neck.

Candid, I personally have no problems switching from the Silo special neck to the AL.

Go for it man, you will love it. :)

Candid - I have small hands and the Albert Lee neck does not feel fat to me at all.
Infact it's the smallest neck of all the guitars I have owned.
I prefer the feel of my BCB to my LE AL and will take some "profiles" of each one to see why that is so.

I totally agree with MBgreene about the similarity with the Axis neck. I played an Axis 2 weeks ago and that was the first thing I noticed.
I have really fallen in love with my AL necks, and I think that you would love them too! - but there again maybe you like 'em fat

I'm off to see him tonight !! :D
