Just wanted to drop a good note on the StingRay 5s.

I did some recording last night, and let me tell you. My StingRay 5 sounded so good on tape. I mean good. The guy that was recording me just seemed floored. He told me many times that my new SR5 sounded better than any bass hed heard me record with. Ive gone through a ton of basses, I mean a ton, and the SR5 just makes it happen for me.

Im excited about the dual pup SR5s, and plan on getting one asap, but the dual pup StingRay 5 is gonna have a tough time trying replace my current autumn redburst SR5 as the main player.

yep,

I too get tons of compliments on my tone, recording and live! My band RaiderHed is recording right now and the MM SR5 cut through like nobodys business.

I LOVE MY BASSES!!!

god bless you all @ EBMM for existing and not forcing us play those gawd awfull generic things they call, (ugh, do i dare type it??? ok I will) fenders. the only other bass I own is a 1985 gibson explorer. It rarely gets pulled out of the case. It's a nice axe... but it's no Sting Ray!!! :D

I am growing more and more in love with my SR5. I recently picked up a Lakland 55-01 as a backup. It is a great playing and sounding bass, but my Stingray is like butter! I know my Skyline is less expensive bass, but whenI compare it to my Stingray 5, I can see why it is a classic.

I've heard many things about the SR5. Heres some i remember:

1) "It does the job"

2) "What more does one need?"

3) "Holy growler"

4)"You sure thats just one pickup?"

5) "I've never heard any bass sound so meaty."

6) "All basses should sound like this"

I was also told that if i get this bass, I'll be one happy bass player for a LONG LONG time. :)

I agree full heartedly. I don't know how they managed to fit some much comfort and mojo into one bass, but there's just something about the SR5 that really is special and makes it hold it's own place in every bassists heart(some just don't know it yet :p ).

I even prefer fours usually, just because there's more room to screw around and dance and rock out on a four. There's nothing like a good SR5 though, they just have 'it'.

The guys I work with on sessions love it. Haven't used the my Bongo fretless on a session yet, but the SR5 is always requested.

IMO, the SR5 is one of the best examples of the "workhorse" word in modern music.

You want that spineshaking low-mid growl ? Looks like it has been built for that.
Trebly slap ? You'll get it with authority.
Phat tone ? The walls will be tumbling down.
Smooth and thin tone ? Cut the mids and you're done.
etc.

I had an SR5 and was stupid enough to let it go.... :(
When I had to find a very versatile bass a few months ago, I found my SUB and yes, it does the job.
With its different electronics and its 3-band EQ, the SR5 is a very versatile instrument.

Cheers
Jay

my sound crews told me that stingray sounds so good, fat, crisp and clear enough than any other bass he heard before ..

I love my SR5. Hands down it is the best bass I have ever played. Plus, it is the only bass I own. I have no need for another one.... but wanting is another story.
