ASS questions (re: value)

Trying to see if a ASS I saw in Music-Go-Round is legit and an okay deal. I may one day decide to rescue it if it remains there long enough. It is Trans Orange with maple fretboard and MHS The top is very nice, and the neck has awesome birdseye. The thing has widely metastatic birdseye disease. It's all over. I've never seen so much birdseye. Needs set-up work. Output jack needs some help. Bridge needs polishing. Seems like it has got some residue (corrosion?) from maybe some guitar polish or something.

1. What's an okay price for an ASS of this vintage/condition?
- it's got the recessed neck plate. I should have probably gotten the SN.
- It's got a 1 cm long x 2-3 mm dent in the top. The clearcoat is visibly fractured.
It's hard to really see it from more than a few feet.
- Reportedly it has the trem bar
- No OHSC. It's got a "TKL" hardshell case.
- No piezo, obviously
- No belt buckle rash. Very little in terms of scratching of the back or the rest of
the guitar.

2. Do the ASS pickups have polepieces that are of uneven height or can be made to
be that way?
- It does have zebras.

Hi Rob

With the p-ups, there are screw poles and regular slugs on the Humbucker. You can alter the height of the screw polepieces, but I'm not sure about the solid ones.

I'm not sure about the price, although with the £ to $ conversion, it seems ok. I'd see if they'd let it go for less (just because it's fun to haggle in a shop). I don't really know what the used market or ASS's is like in the US.

Thanks, Jimmy. The price seems high to me, but I wonder what price people think I should try to get if I decide to rescue it. Just wondering what everyone else thinks.

The pole pieces seem to be as you say with one row that has the screw poles and another with regular slugs.

Below $700? I was thinking $750 max, but lower wouldn't be bad. I guess I was in the right ballpark. Yeah. It needs work. The jack needs work. Needs a set-up. It's got 6mm, I estimate, between strings and the 12th fret. I'd probably send it to jongitarz to get it done right unless someone can point me to a luthier/repair dude whoe does good work on EBMMs here in the Detroit area. If it were just a set-up, I'd try to do it myself. The jack? I don't trust myself with electric/electronic stuff.

Otherwise, the guitar sounds good. The top is gorgeous--at the right angle. A little off-axis (pun intended) you can really see the figuring in a big way. I kept having to tilt it to enjoy it to the fullest. When I tilted it just right, man...super stuff. The neck feels great. Man, does the neck feel right. The neck, the top (with the exception of the dent and fractured clear coat), and the overall feel of the guitar is very nice. The recessed neck plate is a bonus for an EBMM nerd, I guess.

Tell them this ASS needs some work. Make a low offer on if they take it great if not gradually work your way up. You don't want to offer to much when they might take less. What can I say I'm cheap.
