It did sound a bit odd.

Enjoy matey.....

I'm sure I will. :)

As a bit of background to this, I defretted my old Yamaha bass a couple of years back, but never really got on with it. My intonation was utterly horrible and I sounded just about as good as a five year old with a violin.

Fast forward to a few months ago, I picked it up again while being too lazy to take my Stingray out of its case between rehearsals. I figured out that my problem with the Yamaha was the position markers. I was subconsciously aiming for the dots. A couple of minutes with a marker pen got rid of them. A further five minutes with some Tip-Ex and I had some position markers at the "frets". All of a sudden, I could play the thing.

Unfortunately, it sounds like ass in comparison to the ray.

So I got to thinking about ordering a fretless ray. Briefly. It's not going to happen any time soon, because of the usual financial commitments. It then occurred to me that I could always order a Status neck and try that out first. As if by magic, before I had the chance to look for one, Rob mentioned he had one he was getting rid of...

I'm pretty excited about this. :D

Hmm... Anyone got a body for sale, or a ray with a trashed neck?

If it was the same colour, I might even be able to do it without the missus noticing... just leave one in its case...

Well, it's on the bass... first impressions are good...

The neck feels flatter than the standard one.

It's very black.

And it has a really trippy thing going on with the weave pattern on the back.

Played without an amplifier it sounds very much like it did before which is a very good sign!

Photos to come...

:D

Hey Dave looks ok in that pic - is it still dark up there in Scotland....will be up later this month (Speyside Whisky festival).
Glad you like it and that weave pattern is gorgeous......

Seems like the forum has decided you need another body :)

Nope, we're past the equinox so we're getting longer days than you... It was dark when I took the photo though :)

Nice one. Is that up in Strathspey or are they holding it in a more civilised setting?

I'll be looking for recommendations. :) Especially the more obscure stuff.

Isn't it just?

My amp is locked up at the studio, and I won't be able to go up there until Tuesday, so a full review will have to wait :(

Seems like the forum has decided you need another body :)

The bank has decided I'll have to wait a few months at least!

The Festival seems to be centred around Strathisla and surrounds. Recommendation not a problem.....currently enjoying Longmorn 15 and Bowmore 21.

Glad you like it....wait til you plug it in.....
