AX30 Finish?

I posted in another thread but I don't think anyone's seen it, it was a while ago.

Does anyone know what type of finish is on the AX20 (I know, I botched the title, sorry.)? Particularly the Rockstar model. I'm wondering if I can remove the finish on the top of the guitar body with a heat gun/ scraper method.

The very top is a vinyl applied with some kind of glue. It takes a scraper or stiff razor and lots of patience and time. A heat gun *might* work. I didn't own one when I did my guitar. Here's my thread on what I did with one:

Thanks! I really appreciate the help. Did you find it was difficult to work around the binding without damaging it? Also, I'm not really sure how I would use a razor to get the finnish off, could you describe it briefly? I wonder if it would be better to hit it with a palm or belt sander...
