After the DiMarzio upgrade the pickup routes seems to have been changed on the AX guitars to look just like the pu routes on the axis, and that is soooo nice in my opinion :)
But - pictures on the Sterling site and pic's all over the internet keeps showing the AX30D with DiMarzio pickups having the old PU routes....?? Anyone???

The one on the website is pre-D series and since the color has not changed, a new photo has not been taken with the new route and updated on the SBMM website.

I can only assume any retailers using the older route (squared instead of triangular) are using the old stock photo. You can see in a recent thread here, one of our forumites just got a smashing deal on his:

My only suggestion is that if you buy a used one, be sure that it has the actual DiMarzio AXIS pickups in them. I've been getting a lot of customer calls and emails about people trying to pass of the non-DiMarzio older models as having those pickups.

The only way to do so is to pull the pickups out and look on the back. Clearly stamped with "DiMarzio Pickups, Made In USA"

If all of the new SBMM "D" series guitars have the triangular tab routes, then the non-Dimarzio pickups with square tabs won't fit without alteration.
