What do you like about them? Closest I've used is a Sterling AX3.. it has a lot of features which I love.. but now I'm wondering more about the real deal.

Are they typically dark sounding guitars (especially acoustically) or is this just with mine?

The unique body shape? Does it add anything to the tone?

Versatility? Especially with a 5 way switch and tone knob on the Super Sport?

The neck? Neck seems to be an awesome balance of Strat thickness and playability.. chunky but comfortable and easy to play.

If you are a fan.. why do you love them so much? Compared to other superstrat style guitars. I suddenly feel the urge to learn lots about them.

I got into them because of EVH and have been playing them since 1996. What do I like about them? We don't have enought space on the forum for all my thoughts but here are a few.

Build quality
Customer service
Balance when on a strap
The string spacing
Neck radius
Pups
They look killer
Versatility with the 5 way
You can choose almost anything you want
Choice of models
But mainly I play them cause they fit me and I don't have to fit them.

Same here, I have an Axis SS (prefer a hard tail, I don't use a trem) .........my SS has a lot of "soul" to it, deep bodied, rich sound. A rock monster when you need it, but able to do beatiful cleans as well. I applaud EBMM and Sterling for trying to make things affordable for other with a lower budget, but there is nothing like the real thing. I know everyone has a different budget, and don't eat ramen for a year, put off saving for retirement, or live in a cardboard box just to save for one, but make a budget with a timeline and save for a real EBMM, you won't regret it. I know you aren't getting the same pickups in the sterling as the real deal either, the pups are 50% of the magic. You can't even buy them, EBMM won't sell them to you, and the only way you can get one repaired if it breaks (like when does that happen) is to send them the bad one or the whole guitar.

For me it's mainly about the neck. The asymmetric shape fits my hand like nothing else. I'm also happy to play something that wouldn't be mistaken for a Strat or LP. Most folks don't recognize the Axis as an "EVH guitar" so I feel more like it's more "me" than a guitar that most people associate with a particular player.

I have an Axis and a couple of rosewood SS models. The Axis is a bit brighter than the rosewood guitars but I don't consider any of them to be particularly dark.

Hard to explain but whenever I play an Axis it feels 'alive' and the notes and chords just seem to jump out of the thing effortlessly. I always thought it was purely down to the custom pick-ups but it's probably more to do with how everything used in making the guitar reacts with each other, ie neck, body, hardware etc.

Bottom line is you really need to try one.

The Hardtail Axis/EVH has been my main guitar since 1995. It just sounds killer whatever you plug it in to! Great neck, build quality and weight/balance. I got one because EVH played one, and was relieved that they made a hardtail as I hate the wobble stick. I have other guitars, but always come back to the Axis - its the benchmark!

I used my Axis as a practice guitar most of the time, being my Petrucci was my #1 (notice that it's in past tense). The Axis went on a weekend long gig a couple weeks ago and has become my #1. The Axis for me is a pure rock monster as previously stated. It's super comfortable and balanced. The cleans are perfect and the Axis through a Mesa Mark V growls like no other guitar that I've plugged into it before. The neck is meaty and seems that it was made just for me, thanks Ernie Ball!
