Well, like I said, the kind of metal that I'm talking about is along the lines of Dream Theater, Metallica, Buckethead... stuff like that.

I play metal/progressive mostly and Axis didn't work for me - I love the way it looks, but I couldn't get use to it... JP6 was great, but I had to spend some time to get used to it's neck (strange, cause I had Ibanez RG550 before)... I've bought JP7 in the end 'cause I wanted seven string guitar and it's a real killer - much better than JP6 for me, but to be honest Luke was the best MM guitar I've played so far... Probably the best guitar I've ever played in my life... I don't know why it fits for me, cause for last 10 years I've played only flat shaped Wizard necks and I've never liked V-shape before. I still don't like v-shaped Fenders - strange, cause my first guitar ever was cheap Squier, so it should feel like home... Anyway, Luke is on the top of my wish list now... And JP6 maybe...:) I think I need to stop reading this forum...;)
I can confirm that Luke's middle pickup has great clean tone, try it!

Why didn't the Axis work for you? Was it the way it felt or the way it sounded?

Both, I guess... But it's just my opinion... I believe that it could be perfect for someone...

Well, honestly, the only thing that you can do to know for sure is to TRY it yourself. Sometimes you get lucky by ordering something you have never tried (for example me and my first EBMM Silo), and sometimes you THINK that the guitar is going to be perfect based on someone elses opinion and needs from a guitar. Try and find one and test it out. First time I tried the Axis I didnt like it all that much, but mostly due to the amp. But than I tried an ASS throug a rig I could work with, and it was freakin sweet :D.

Without a doubt I am gonna try it out. They have one at mt local GC. My buddy played it last time we were there, I was too busy trying out a Mesa, but from what I could tell, it sounded pretty sweet, especially in his hands! He's a phenomenal player. I just have to figure out if rosewood or maple is gonna be better. If I went with an Axis SS, what is the trem like? What other EBMM trem does it compare to? Is it at all flexible? I'd like to be able to go up at least just a little bit, and down at least a whole step on the trem.

The Axis has a flush mounted Floyd. Dive only.

The SS comes in hardtail or vintage trem. I haven't played one, so I can't tell you how well it works.
