What are the opinions out there on Ernie Ball making a Archtop Axis...I know that the Wolfgang is very similiar but they do not hold a candle to the craftmanship of the Axis...would anyone buy one?

hmmmmmmmmmm....... an archtop Axis (ponder, ponder, ponder. . . . . . . .)

I'm still not sure, because I prefer a "flat" top guitar myself. So, I'll probably say "no".

It's not just a cosmetic thing. Among other issues; more weight and it places the picking hand support fingers (if you play that way) higher up above the strings.

I like the idea. I rather like the idea of a semi-hollow axis more, but I realize that would require a whole new wing of equipment at the factory. At least it seems like it would. I like the Thinline Tele sound, but I hate the way they feel after sleeping with my Axis guitars 7 days a week.

At least I'm not suggesting a JP covered in duct tape like another company did.. ;)

So, yes.. I am serious. I think it'd be cool.

Ha! I remember seeing that guitar and wondering, "what were they thinking?"
Still, I don't think you could hollow out a JP without changing the shape, and the pickups don't seem voiced right...
I think it'd end up being a completely different guitar...
I guess I'd still be interested though.

First the artist would need to play one in order for EBMM to even consider such a signature model.

If EBMM chose to do a semi hollow or hollow body down the road, why not just create a new guitar from scratch rather than making it a version of an Axis or even a Silo?

It'd be weird.. definitely new pickups!

^^ The MusicMan site says this:
"Known as the Edward Van Halen from January 1990 though September 1995, the Axis features a bass- wood body with a bound, book-matched figured maple top and a digitally carved neck."
So I guess you're right, although I'm fairly sure that after EVH left there were a few guitars produced that just had the EVH logo taken off the headstock.

I'd love an arch topped axis...maybe a JeffreyB signature model? Yeah, that will work.
Thanks, BP....you need my home address to send it to?
