Axis Confusion

Hi,
despite I own a MMEvH since 1993 I am new in the forum and like to say hello to all you guitarslingers.
Now my question: I recently purchased a second hand Axis Sport loaded with P 90 pickups. Body should be basswood, but I hardly found reviews on harmony-central concerning thoses type of wood. Most reviewed guitars have ash body and I had been told
by a fellow from the german Marshall forum that as well P 90 models with alder bodies exist. Could you guys help me and could provide some information, when what type of wood had been use for the P 90 loaded Axis ?

I'm not really sure about your question!
I have heard that not all Axis guitars are made out of the same wood (I have a friend who claims that his Axis is built out of mahogany), but I don't know for sure.

My fault I thought he said Super sport. Regular sport is Swamp Ash.

Hi Pete the Rock....we're getting confused too. If you have a (slab bodied) Sport it's made of Ash....if it's a (carved top) Super Sport then it's ash with a maple top

....and welcome to the forum, I'm sure people would like to see photos of your guitar.

I guess it also it is ash... ask the custom service here... tell them the serial # . They should know it what it is .

That is Ash.

It certainly is. The Axis Sport models were made from ash. The earlier versions sported a pickguard which (I think) was phased out before the introduction of the MM90 (own versions of the P90) versions.

The seller may have looked at the specs of the Axis Super Sport, which is indeed basswood with a maple cap, but ash with maple for the MM90 version, hence the confusion.

Great guitar either way.

Hey Pete, welcome. The seller probably went tot the Music Man website, didn't find the page for the Axis Sport, since there isn't a link for it anymore and just used the information from the Axis web page.

Great looking Axis Sport, I love the Axis Sports.
