An Axis with numbers only? And an 88xxx at that? Is that guitar new? If not, I'll stake a claim that it's 95-97 EVH transition era; that's the numbering scheme for EVH's. My EVH's are:
Red 1994 - 84xxx
Purple 1995 - 87xxx
So, perhaps that should get you in the ballpark, at least...when our good folks in San Luis Obispo return after their weekend, they'll get you a definite answer/DOB.
