Hey guys, after changing all the strings on my axis and cleaning the fretboard, 3 weeks later its disgusting again. How are all of you maintaining those maple fretboards?
Thanks,
Ben G

Ernie Ball Wonder Wipes are your friend

And as fbecir suggests: beer! Seriously, I'm gonna get lambasted for this. I frequently(once a week) use wonder wipes. I let the oils from the wonder wipes soak in overnight sometimes. These unfinished necks seem to suck in moisture. It seems to work for me.

Seriously do you wipe down your guitar when you are finished playing? Also it is wise to always wash your hands under warm water before playing, not only to clean them but to get the blood circulating. That is an old Steve Morse tip that really works. But honestly one really heavy playing session of a few hours without wiping down your guitar will kill the strings and dirty up the neck.

Are the Wonder Wipes ok to use on a maple neck/maple fingerboard? I've heard both yes and no and would like to know for sure as I'd like to do a little cleaning/maintenance on my Axis.

Thanks for all the responses guys, i'm going to try using wonder wipes. On another note, a Mesa Mark V should be arriving on Saturday!

Wonder Wipes do a very nice job but they won't take the fretboard back to it's original clean state no matter how careful or clean you are. Dirt will come off as will some stains, but never as good as new. It was hard for me to accept at first but now I really like the way it looks after Wonder Wiping because it kind of enhances any woodgrain and seems to make stains look more like a part of the wood.

I use the wonder wipes too. Right now I have and axis and a SS. The SS seems like it has a really light satin finish on it and it never gets dirty. The axis on the other hand sucks the dirt from the ground and no matter what I do it stays dirty. I use wonder wipes and cover that thing with gun stock wax and oil but it just wants to be dirty.
