Hi guys,

I have a 2004 Axis with the high stability trem system, (which I am fairly sure is a gotoh)...

I am wondering if I can reduce the tension on the floyd, in order to get more subtle control of it, by loosening the screws holding the springs inside the cavity? Any issues I should be aware of before trying this.

Any info is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I tried it and perceived no noticeable difference after loosening the screws attached to the springs/claw with regard to trem tension.

Loosening the springs did however alter my action to the point that I had to adjust it back to my preference.

I have since re-tightened the screws, and re-re-adjusted my action back once again.

In conclusion...I do not recommend doing this.

Cheers,

Tom

Moving the claw will not help you. You need to experiment with different springs - less or different orientation of them.

Lou,

Thanks for that suggestion. I will try it. Do you know if I can get different springs from Musicman or Ernie-Ball?

Is it dive-only or set up to float (lower and raise pitch)? If it's dive only loosening the trem claw screws will reduce the tension (up to the point where it begins to float).

My suggestion is try setting up the springs as /|\ first, then you could try 2 springs. If you want to try some you don't have, run down to a local shop - I'm sure they have some in their parts drawer that they will probably just give you if you have a good relationship with them.

Thanks for the additional info guys. I do appreciate it. My trem is dive only. I am currently running the trem with 2 springs in the | | position. I think looking at other springs with lesser tension should be my next move.

Thanks again guys.

Cheers,

Tom
