I have an original Axis with a hardtail, its not an axis SS, it has the three way pup selector and a hardtail, anyway the neck is totally different than the new SS's, I have a SS as well, someone mentioned to me that this guitar is worth more money and that it is kind of rare, especially the color which is a sunburst, does anyone have any info on this guitar? - thanks - lock

The last one up on eBay only pulled $760 (the Buy It Now was $850, and no one took it!). The used Axis market is in the toilet right now because some retailerswhoshallremainnameless blew out their Axis stock real cheap. As a rule, a hardtail might pull a little bit more than a trem model, but I don't think anyone really thinks of them as collectable. Now a Hardtail EVH is a different story, but the Axis doesn't hold its resale value particularly well. For myself, if anyone told me my Axis Hardtail was "rare" and "desirable" and "worth more", I'd tell him to show me the color of his money or just shut up. Everyone's an expert on guitar values it seems, but nobody wants to actually pay what they're so eager to tell you it's worth! You want to know how much it's worth? Throw it up on eBay on a seven day auction with a $1 openning and no reserve. You'll know exactly what it's worth a week later ;)

As for the neck feeling "totally different", I have four Axis - one even has a rosewood board - and none of the necks feel "totally different" to me...

Actually the guy who put that guitar up there is the one who told me that it was sort of a collectable, but the neck is different, it sort of like the EVH contours but maybe a bit wider at the base if that makes any sense, my axis SS is your standard axis neck, also my tech told me the pups are hotter as well, I know thay are the same pups on the guitars since the eddie days but the meter tells a different story unless the pups on my SS are weak - lock

They may be talking about the increase at the base of the neck to prevent the high E string slippage. (1/16" or 1/32" wider, not sure without researching!)

As far as the eBay Axis, it may be "collectible" due to the fact that purple is no longer a color option. Hardtail is still an option, I believe...

We are not currently offering the Axis Model with a hardtail. The Floyd Trem model is the only one currently in production.

Thanks
