Hey,

Just wondering whether matching headstock is common or not on AXIS or any other MM for that matter. My AXIS headstock is not matching and i love it as it is.

Stevie,

Funny, but I was discussing this very topic this afternoon!! I personally think that matching headstock looks best with "burst" color schemes. I don't think they look as good (for whatever reason) on solid color paints or with certain burst color schemes. However, I've found exceptions to this a few times. I think black or natural "fits" better on solids. Again, just my opinion.:)

I see more matching than non-matching on Axis guitars. Can't lose either way :D

Most of the JPs I have seen seem to have a matching headstock. The original Morses don't from what I have observed.

I used to always like matching, but this forum has adjusted my tastes somewhat. If the fretboard is maple, sometimes non-matching is nice. If rosewood, definitely matching every time.

I'm particular about matching heastocks. On the lighter trans finishes (gold, amber, orange, even red), I like the matching heastocks. For any other trans finish, I like them non-matching.

I think the tops do most of the talking. If the quilt or flame is nice, I think the matching headstock is a moot point. But I agree that on some of the burst finishes, a matching HS is a good combo.

As far as maple versus rosewood, I think non-matching is great. JMHO though.

This is the way I go as well. My Axis (Sports and Supers) have maple with non-matching, but my 20th has Rosewood and matching.

It's just down to your own taste. If you see a colour you like and want to see what it looks like in every imaginable config, the chances are that Foggy's got a pic of it anyway!!

:)

I have a Natural quilted maple axis, with maple fretboard, and natural matching headstock. It looks terrific but the matching headstock is almost unnecesary.
It adds a little touch, but in solid colours i think is nicer unmatched.

I see a mixture of both. I usually see the same amount of matching and non matching/natural
