Hi all,

I've recently adjusted my Axis for a bit, and of course I'd like to have the action as low as possible, so I tried to go for a really low action, and then I realised that the trem on an Axis has a plate underneath it (which blocks it from going up)...

For sure it blocks the trem in a way, but is it possible (or correct) to let the plate actually and seamlessly touching the finish of the guitar firmly to make the trem (hence the action) as low as possible? I hope you guys will understand what I want to say...

Thanks in advance!

It is designed to sit flush on the body. I wouldn't wrench on it so that is sitting hard on the finish just sitting lightly on the top. You can only set the action so low...

If you lower the 2 screws holding the trem it actually raises the action, leave the trem alone, I dont kow if you have a floyd or a vintage trem but leave it alone and adjust the saddles and/or straighten the neck, for the record really low action sounds and plays like ****, im not sure why you would want to do that, I guess you dont use vibrato in your playing -

Yeah that's right I actually sledom use the trem...so that's the reason that I wanted to set the action as low as possible...

I used to use the trem but at the moment I'm not really keen to touch it...I don't know why but I always have the feeling that using (or abuse) the trem damages the neck (because using the trem changes the tension of the strings and hence the neck) So I always try not the use the trem and eventually I avoided...

Reason for buying the Axis but not using the trem? Actually...I just like the tone of it...in fact...I'd like the Axis to be a double cut body rather than the current shape...If there is a JP EBMM with the sound of an Axis I'll definitely buy it...

Okay back to the talk...so should I make the plate just slightly touching the guitar's body and tighten the springs a bit? Since I got the trem this low, sometimes when I bend the string the trem hits the body a bit and caused a weird sound... Any Comments?

Depends on what stuff you're playing. Uberlow action isn't always a bad thing.

I would leave the trem as is, it sounds like you touched it already but it should be flat on the body like a pancake, then tighten the claw or add a spring, but dont make it too tight, just so when you bend the strings it doesnt come off the body, as for the trem use is does no damage to the neck whatsoever, so flutter away, that sound your hearing might be the springs in the back which is normal, you could put a piece of foam under the springs to kill it, it sounds like you dont have a ton of experience with guitar set up so I would take it to a tech to get it the way you want it, if you wanna learn buy a squier and screw with that - it sounds like you have a floyd so you should have jsut straightened the neck a bit and the action would come down -
