Axis neck and floyd changes

Hi, I had a question regarding the necks on the axis model. I own a 2009 used regular floyd model. The neck is very smooth and soft. It has a good amount of birds eye. The floyd bar is also held in by a square piece where it inserts.

I've played 2 off the rack axis' and both of them felt and looked like this Ernie Ball MusicMan Axis in Trans Gold on Quilt 749699500193 | eBay

The neck has a very rough feel and nowhere near as smooth. The floyd also screws in and the fine tuners are thinner. Does anyone know when EB made these changes and if all new models are like this? Thanks
 
Hey guitargoalie,
We are still using the gun stock oil and wax, perhaps the one you played needed a fresh dose.
We changed over to the new treml June 2011
