I heard from someone that MM no longer makes Axis necks with birdseye maple. Is there any truth to this? Are they flame maple now instead? Just curious, thanks :)

No truth. I've seen plenty of new ones lately with lots of birds eye. You'll find lots with flame too. Each piece of wood is different, so each guitar is different. Find one you love and grab it!

Just search the shops that are selling them. You'll see pics of birds eye, flame, plain. Whatever floats your boat.

u know - once I have my hand wrapped around that neck, it just doesn't matter to me what maple configuration it has - it's the absolute most "perfect" neck/profile known to exist in the universe.

If I don't see an EBMM hanging on a GC wall - really, what's the use in even playing?! Well, ok, but ONLY maybe a PRS.

sometimes you get both flame and birdseye

Thats how mine is, a bit of flame on top of the neck.

Thanks for the replies guys, I was just curious as I read somewhere that birdseye aren't made at all or not as much so I wanted to make sure. It seemed odd to me, as I too have seen new MM Axis guitars in stores with birdseye necks. I love the shape of the neck as well, quite possibly the best one out there. I've held the new Wolfgang and it just doesn't do it for me. Not sure what Ed is thinking, he got it right from Paul Unkert when he made his 5150.
