Can someone tell me the difference between the two (i.e. radius and most importantly the back profile). thanks
Well without getting into measurements (which you can easily find out), I can tell you this, the Wolfie is a much meatier, thicker almost baseball like neck, while the Axis is thinner and more narrow.

Wolf neck does feel a little meatier, but I'm not sure that it is... The radius is flatter, so it feels a little wider across the board, and the frets are bigger on the Wolf...

Indeed. The Wolfgang feels a bit wider and bigger, and definitely has a MUCH flatter radius. The finish is also very different: the Wolfgang feels 'bare' which is nice, but nowhere near as nice as the magical oil/wax-formula EBMM puts on the Axis in my opinion.

I have bought 2 goldtop Wolfy's -ended up sellin um both- just didn't feel right-believe you me I played them both-
As soon as I pick up my EVH EBMM- it's on ! I play for hours--I just wish I could use the trem up and down  ..

When I first pick up the EVH-feels like a toy(real light) but after a few minutes it feels soo sweet--

I just bought this one pictured on the left blue gone bad--- She's sweet ! Mint condition-

About 4 years ago I traded my Emerald Green evh EBMM to my Jap friend for a sunburst evh EBMM and 3 Tokai Les Pauls-

I bought the Emerald Green EVH EBMM brand new from Guitar Center for $1750

When I sold the sunburst for $1800 I figured that was kool :D

but ended up replacing my Emerald Green EVH EBMM with another one for 3K off of fleabay

--ouch !!

I just struck a deal with my Jap friend to buy my original evh back for 3k-

2 x ouch-

I'm bankling on when ed OD's or what ever- These pups will be worth a small fortune

"That's all I have to say about that"

Like the difference between playing a Les Paul Custom and a Fender Strat. Wolfgang= Les Paul Custom neck
Axis(or EVH) = Fender Strat

Closest analogy I can come up with that can be pretty much universally understood.

Axis has a 10" radius.

Wolf has a 15" radius.

And the Wolf neck is significantly wider at the base. This obviously translates into a wider fretboard as you travel up towards the nut.

Both have comfy broken in feel to them. But beyond that, they are quite different so personal preference becomes the most important factor.

I find the necks worlds apart. The Wolfgang frets are just too damn big, and the back contour doesn't feel as broken in to me. Much prefer the EBMM neck. Guess I'll have to buy another EVH or Axis. Oh the Humoneyty.

One of the first things people say about the MM guitars is how good the necks feel. I own both an EVHMM and and a Wolfgang, for me I'm drawn to the MM always.

I own an EVH , Axis, & 2 Wolfs.

Other than the profiles & neck radius being different, the biggest difference for me is the finish/feel of the necks. IMO, no other guitar maker finishes a neck as well as EBMM. They feel broken in & comfortable the 1st time you pick them up.

I will say, though, when I pick up one of my Wolfs after playing the 'balls' for a while, the wider neck makes my hand feel less cramped. They're both great necks & guitars.

I wonder what made Ed change the neck so significantly?

peavey was smart enough to copy the truss rod......but not smart enough to copy it correctly. i've set up quite a few wolfies........& the ernie ball truss rod consistantly works MUCH smoother.

I 've had an EVH, an early quilt top Wolf, and a recent Flametop Special; all three were different.

The quilt Wolf was alot different than the Special. You could tell there was some time put into the neck. The frets were lower, there was an oil finish(confirmed with Peavey on this), and the was a wear in(rounded edge) on the fingerboard.

The Special felt like they made the neck, pressed in the frets, and sent it out. The frets were huge, they were like .055" high. That's the original height of Dunlop 6105, so I guess they didn't dress them at all. I ended up leveling the frets down to about .045", scraped some roundness to the fingerboard edge, and did the oil/wax treatment. After a few hours of work, the neck felt great.

I guess the moral of the story is that EBMM puts time into each of their necks, and Peavey puts time into some of their necks.

Sorry for fishing out this old threat but I just bought a Wolfgang Standard Deluxe Custom Shop model with a rosewood fretboard. I have to say that I was pretty dissappointed with the neck. Body, pickups, hardware and everything else is great but the neck just don´t get it.
As some of you described it doesn´t have that "coming home"-feeling like the EBMM EVH. Even when you just look at it it doesn´t have that "vibe".
Two days after receiving and after 6 or 7 hours of playing the Wolf I put it on ebay again. I just couldn´t get used to it.
Will definitely go for another Music Man after selling it. Maybe a Petrucci this time. I´m really into that rosewood-maple combination. ;)
