Okay before you say "use the search function newbie" I did that already and found threads with differing information (some say the Silo has a small C neck, some say its chunky etc)

I've played Silo's before and like the neck thickness. A previous thread I found listed the specs of a Silo neck as ".8180 at the 1st fret and .9300 at the 12th." which seems quite thick.

My question is, does anyone know if the Axis neck is thicker than this? The reason I ask is because I've had tendinitis in the past, and since having tendinitis, I've found thicker necks much better on the hands/wrists than thin necks. (I've also seen people recommend EBMM necks for their comfort)

Thanks for any help guys.

I don't notice it being any thicker - the Axis neck is different shape and does feel more narrow however.

Thanks Mike - so the Axis feels more narrow even though they both have 1 5/8 width nuts?

Do you have a preference as to which is more comfortable?

Narrower? Really?
My memory must be bad.
I thought the Axis and Al were rounder/chunkier.

To my eye/hand, the Axis is thinner at the first 5-6 frets. Most of its chunkiness seems to reside in the upper frets.

The silo I owned briefly seemed to feel thicker closer to the nut.

Hi Dan,

Silo necks vary in thickness, but the ones I've tried all had a very comfortable C carve. The only Axis I've had also had a great neck, but with a very different feel than that of the Silo Specials. It's thicker on top (by thumb nail) and tapers toward high E - asymmetrical in shape. My preference is the Silo shape. Both utilize a comfortable 10" radius. Just depends which works best for you.

I think the axis feels a little chunkier (from fingerboard to back of neck) but since the width of it (from string edge to string edge) feels narrower, it makes the neck overall feel a little smaller...and in my opinion might help with someone who is having hand/tendon problems. Both of the guitars(axis and silo) feel more comfortable than a standard strat and my hands are less fatigued.

My axis are thicker than my silo, also they are bith 1 5/8 at the nut but the silo is a tad bit wider at the 22nd fret and so it feels a tad bit wider, but as candid said they all differ a bit, generally i have felt that the axis is fatter yet not as wide, if you have tendonitis then they will both be great for you, but the axis has the edge on thickness IMO -

So, the AL necks are similar to the old early 50's teles? (similar in thickness, I mean)
We have one coming in this week, but it's already sold to wolfbone...hmmmm...maybe he wouldn't mind if I gigged with it for about a month or two before I ship it out....Yeah, that would be good...hmmmm

Thanks for the responses everyone. :D

I did some digging on the net and found the Axis neck is meant to measure 0.830 (1st) - 0.930 (12th) against the Silo's .8180 at the 1st fret and .9300 at the 12th. So it would seem the Axis is a slightly bigger, but not by much. I am interested in the fact the Axis neck feels more narrow, that sounds like it will be quite a comfortable neck carve.

Hey robelinda2 - if you are in Melb, can you tell me who some good EBMM dealers are??

No, the more posts you have, you change status....
Welcome, by the way!
Glad to have you here....what actually happens when you buy your first EBMM, is that you get a strange sickness...you begin scraping money together to buy your next one....and you start obsessing over the neck and start asking questions about the other models....and you buy more....and you eventually become a zombie because you're on this forum all day and night....and....
