Thanks Beej I think I might try this on the Axis when it shows up. I should be able to handle it if I can dig up a wiring diagram. I'll make a thread if I go through with it as well as pics of the install.
About 10 years ago I was looking for a new guitar. Was looking for a step up from a Yamaha pacifica 1221. I was considering either a Les Paul or PRS Custom 24 at the time. I'm a picky person, and it can take me months to make up my mind on what I want to fork my cash on. This local music store where I live carried both gibson and prs. They also carried peavey. I went in once every week or two and played on different guitars over a period of a few months. I played several different guitars from different manufactures during this time period, but one guitar played and felt better than the rest. It was an Ivory colored wolfgang standard with a tune-o-matic bridge. This thing was amazing. The only problem was it had Eddie Van Halen's signature on it. I knew from the first time I left the store that I liked the peavey better than all the gibsons, prs's, ibanez's, and even a music man that I played on. The only problem was that it had EVH's signature on it.
After a few months of being a regular at the store, the salesman told me something that didnt occur to me before. He had knew that I liked the wolfgang best because I played it the most and he also knew that I wouldnt buy it because it was a signature series. He told me something that would change how I viewed signature series guitars. He told me that the Les Paul is a signature guitar. The Les Paul is probably the most popular sig guitar. There are many famous guitar players who play it. If it isnt a problem for those great guitar players to use a sig guitar, then why should it be a problem for me to use the peavey.
Anyway, I bought the guitar and havent had any trouble from it. No shorts in the pots or input, tuners still keep it in tune well. This guitar is very well made and has never had anything wrong with it. After 10 years it still plays and sounds great, and it was my main guitar until recently. This Ivory wolfgang that I managed to talk the salesman down to $1100.00 has been the guitar that I judge all guitars by. I only found one guitar that I liked well enough to make a step up like I did with the pacifica to the wolfgang, and that is my new bfr petrucci. Curious to see what the future holds 10 years down the road when and if I decided to step up from the petrucci. Gonna be tough cause this thing is perfect.
Well I hope that story might change your view of signature guitars. I'm not trying to talk you into getting a wolfgang. Different people have different tastes and that is why there are a million different guitar models out there.
BTW those old yamaha pacificas from the early 90s, like my pacifica 1221 are amazing guitars as well. I chose it over some high dollar ibanez's at the time eventhough it didnt look as cool as the Ibby. To bad yamaha doesnt make those anymore. Not a big fan of the new pacificas.
