hi guys..
i have some question regarding the Axis guitars.. i got some serious GAS for them.. :D

1. what does the difference between the regular axis and the super sport? please give me some history on why EB decided to make the SS line?

2.and which one do you guys think has better value for the money, regular or the SS?

3.as far as i noticed, regular axis' only have volume pot, does it mean it would sound much brighter than the SS?

4.how's Axis' neck feels like? will it be comfortable for small hands?

that's all for now..
thanks alot!!

-(Anyone feel free to correct me) I believe Axis production began in '97. SS production began about a year after that. The Axis was the EVH from about '90 to '96. When EVH left, they made some minor modifications and the guitar became the Axis.

-Axis has a Floyd and no tone knob.

-Axis SS has a more traditional trem, tone knob and 5 way switching that allows for noiseless coil tapped tones in the notch positions.

2.and which one do you guys think has better value for the money, regular or the SS?

-If you can live without a Floyd Rose, the SS is by far the better value IMO. All the tones of the Axis and more.

3.as far as i noticed, regular axis' only have volume pot, does it mean it would sound much brighter than the SS?

-Can't comment on this but I'm guessing there is some tonal difference because of the tone pot. Honestly, I can't see this being a big issue unless you are very OCD about every subtle nuance of your pure guitar tone. If so, the added tonal features of the SS may be a sufficient trade off.

4.how's Axis' neck feels like? will it be comfortable for small hands?

-The Axis neck has a very broken in feel to it. More than almost any guitar, it feels like it's been played for years. And ironically enough, it will fit small hands quite well. It is a fairly narrow fretboard. Narrower than most IMO. Narrower than Fender if that gives you a reference. Small hands? No problem. I would think large hands would be the only problem.

Hope this helps.

Alot of people notice a tonal difference between the Axis and SS. I personally cannot, but if there is, then it's very minor.

hbucker has covered everything spot on as far as I can see. They are seriously good guitars though and the neck is so comfortable and fast I can't really see anyone having problems with it, regardless of the size of their hands.

Actually I think the mass of the Floyd gives the models a different tone, it's not huge, but certainly is noticeable, at least to my ears. I prefer the tone of the Floyd model. If they sounded almost indistinguishable, I'd have gotten a SS so as not to have to bother with the locking nut on the Floyd. I'm still tinkering with the idea of putting locking tuners on my Axis and removing the locking nut (or not!).
