Hi all -

About to place an order through my local dealer for an Axis Super Sport and was wondering if I could specify the following options for mine:

1) Quilt top, vintage burst color
2) Thickest neck profile possible (given that they're all about the same, I'd just like as much "meat" as I can get :))
3) Strung with Power Slinkys
4) Hardtail version
5) Maple board with maple headstock (i.e. headstock does not match body color)

??

Also, regarding necks, I've heard some say that the regular Axis has a thicker neck than the SS model... is this true?

Thanks all!!

Hey there.

All the Axis necks (Axis, Super Sport) are the same. They are hand sanded so occasionally there are minute differences, but you're not going to see much variation. So nothing to specify there.

All MMs ship with the default strings for that instrument. In the case of the Axis Super Sport, they're the RPS Slinkys (9s). You can't specify another set, you'd have to change it once you get the guitar.

You can specify the body colour, hardtail (vs the trem version) and and a natural headstock (vs a matching one). Your dealer should be able to walk you through all of this.

I don't believe you can specify the top- quilt vs flame. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong here.

I believe that the ASS MM90 comes with 10-46 strings. The ASS with humbuckers comes with 9-42 strings.

Thanks so much for the replies! Wow, you can't specify quilt on the top (unless it's a BFR)? That's surprising.... and disappointing

You might be able to find a guitar close to what you're looking for. Ask Glen. Your dream guitar may already be sitting somewhere in a music shop.

Wow, wait: You can't specify quilted top anymore?!?!? I ordered my Axis in January and have the receipt where it shows I PAID EXTRA for quilted maple, along with a picture of the one I wanted. After I wait a few months (on top of how long it took me to save up for it) and it gets here with anything else, I am gonna cuss a streak that will surely conjure the devil!

Is there a way of checking on this? I seriously don't want it if it isn't what I specified.

Was it a BFR Axis you ordered? Cause that's the only way you can choose between quilt or flame top. Was the picture from a dealer? Maybe it was a guitar the dealer already had in stock.

Not a BFR. I actually went to the shop with 2 pictures off the website: The Axis in natural and the one in red, both quilted, and said, "Get me this [natural], and if you can't, then get me this [red]. Here's my credit card." I specified that I did NOT want the BFR, and my receipt reflects $250 for quilt top. The dealer had a flame sunburst in stock, but that's not the guitar from my fantasies, so I saved up and ordered.

I don't know if I should alert the store or MM, because if I can't have what I specified (shown on the website), I don't want one at all. After saving up forever and then months of waiting, I'm really disappointed to learn about it this way. Sounds like dealer error, really, but the website really looked to me like I could still specify. This is a bummer.

I would get in touch with the store first. It could be an honest mistake on the stores part but they should know you can no longer do the upgrade with the regular Axis.

On the site under Body wood it says......Basswood with bookmatched figured maple top. So doesn't specify what you will get.

Check out page 1, post #13 of the for sale thread. Guitarhack has a natural quilt top for sale. Might be just what you are looking for.
