Help! Axis pickups and an Alder body

Just wondering if anyone has combined the two and whether the result was good, bad or indifferent. I know it will be different to a standard Axis, but what are your thoughts if you have put the two together?

I have the old Axis Sport which has an ash body and the tone is unreal! I would assume that Alder would lend itself well to the Axis pickups as well... Every other wood has performed amazing with those pickups. The HHAL is a tone monster with the Mahagony and we all know about th standard Axis.
