Just got my Axis last week. Since the bar is designed to stay in, do you have any tricks/advice for transporting in a gig bag? I wrapped duct tape around a packing peanut to keep the end of the bar from punching into the fabric but wondered what else folks do.

Thanks!

I had this exact same problem, because I like to use a good gig bag when transporting (less weight, easier to carry, smaller). Having being used to old 80's OFR's from playing old USA Kramers, and because I had one laying around and the bar, I removed the Gotoh nut and installed the OFR 'old style' nut. Floyd Rose still makes them (order directly through them, comes with nut assembly and bar) and it fits the old Gotoh Axis Floyd bridge perfectly. Here's how mine looks like....

I'm sure you can use the new style screw on nut and bar. It'll fit. Its an option and a quick easy way to put your Axis in a gig bag

So I got the trem bar yesterday and installed it today. As it turns out, the Stew-Mac assembly is a Schaller. The housing fit but the nut that secures the bar to the housing rubbed against the low E saddle. Fortunately, that wasn't anything that sanding down the knurling on the nut couldn't fix. While I was at it, I installed a Tremol-no, allowing me to use the D-Tuna or let the trem float.

Fun stuff!

The bridge on the Axis doesn't float, at least from the factory it doesn't.

ozzyrules, the new Gotoh Floyd bridge its not a problem to remove the arm quickly, but on the older ones its a different scenario.

I know but
  • I had an unused Tremol-No that I'd originally purchased for another guitar
  • I like to use a trem for vibrato around the note
  • The trem on my Axis had a fair bit of back tilt so by setting it parallel to the top I got some float out of it.

Not looking for any wacky upbend. The way it sits now it pulls up a half step on the high E string and a full step on the low one. When I activate the Tremol-No, the D-Tuna is easier to engage because it has a bit more space between it at the top.
