Ok, so I'm a complete novice at recording and playing too (lol). Anyway, I was deciding whether or not to put my ASS up for sale due to the impending cost of the DD2 I have ordered and decided to have a bit of fun.

I picked the Sol 100 head and a 4x12 with V30's and tweaked a little. Then I played along with an ole' fave of mine. Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love.

I'm no gigging musician as you'll soon be able to tell, but I play to have fun and I was having it. :D

So anyway, tell me what you think of the tone so far and what I could do to get it a bit closer. Don't judge the playing too harshly - I'm no virtuoso like some of you peeps are...

Sounded tight to me. Nice job.

OT: You want some free vst drums to use in garageband check out drumcore free version just released 1.2 Gbs of free drum goodness.

Thanks for the comments. I tend to suffer from recording/performance anxiety and it's nice to hear some kind words. I'm one of those non-serious players that plays by ear, but still tries to get better by just playing more (gettin' some tab occasionally too).

Did this with the POD Farm addon for my Guitarport last night because the wife/kids were asleep. I have an Egnater Rebel 20 full stack and an SM57 with the XLR to USB adapter. Anyone have any tips on how to get the best recorded sound in Garageband with that kinda setup? All the input/track volumes (mic adapter has some too) are making it hard for me to get the right sound going and volume to match with stuff.

Sounds pretty good! You might try just a little less gain and turn the noise gate down coz I could hear it cutting your signal out when you rolled the volume back during the bridge ('gotta, gotta, BREATH, bebe' part). Keep up the good work though!

Joe, don't be so hard on yourself. Yeah, you need a little practice on some of the solo parts, but You totaly nailed the rhythm parts. You even have the riffs feel down pat. Alot of players that can do all the amazing "widdly widdly widdly" shredding don't ever learn that. As far as you tone, there is a little to much lowend, I don't think you can get close to his early sound with a soldano, try an old Marshall plexi model with all the knobs cranked. Keep rocking man you play alot better than you think you do.

Thanks for the kind words rickjohns! I'll drop the bass and gain a bit and see how it comes out. As far as using the SLO100 model, my version has 2 plexi's, but I just couldn't get close to the same sound at all with them. There's an addon pack that has the Variac'd model which would likely be much closer, but I don't have it (yet). I figured that the next closest thing would be the SLO since he used those before moving to P****y.

Sadly I don't quite know how to do the punch-in/punch-out stuff yet so I recorded that in just one take and didn't really know how to fix the mistakes with overdubs. I can definitely play some of the solo parts better than what was recorded so I'm gonna try to redo this with separate tracks for certain parts and see if I can't get it all a little closer to the original. Eddie slaps a flange on and off in a couple parts and I couldn't do that without some kind of pedal mechanism in a single take shot, so I'm gonna break it up and see what I can do with the parts separately.

Thanks again for the kind words!

I too use garageband with my line6 toneport, at first everything is a little difficult to get around but after that its so swift to set up when wanting to record something.

may i suggest some reverb?

Joe, there is a deal on the models packs at the moment:

Line 6 :: Store

I boosted my GuitarPort last year, and it was well worth it. I don't make best use of the FX, but the extra amp models and presets are just great.

The Bogner and Diezel sounds are fantastic.

30 day money back; try the Air Norton on the Deity Lead patch in Gearbox, and it'll be a keeper!

Joe, in GarageBand, arm another track. Record your lead parts on the track, and then use the edit functions to snip out the old solos. Go to apple.com, and they have some tutorials on GarageBand. Also, the help section is really good, type in edit tracks and you will find the info you need. Also look on YouTube for training on GarageBand. It is really easy to use once you get the hang of it. GarageBand has the same audio engine as logic pro, and every version comes out with more and more features that the pro version has. I find myself doing quick demos with my band at practice with GarageBand is really quick an easy, and if I need to edit more in depth I can open the project up in logic later. Dig in and you'll be editing like a pro in no time. Also, you can have GarageBand turn on and off your effects for you with automation, after you record it. Have fun, you'll be a pro in no time.

lol, I got my guitarport right when it was released (I actually pre-ordered it before they were available). I just upgraded like what, 8 years worth of addons? Good lord, it's a good thing I got laid off and have some free time - :D
