I recently ordered an Axis in Black Cherry with rosewood fretboard, the guy in the shop asked me if
I wanted Quilt or flame top which I thought was strange as I was told elsewhere you dont get a choice?
It just depends on what is available at the time, and the quality of the quilt or flame will cost extra etc etc.
Can anyone verify this?

I told the guy in the shop I wanted a Black cherry Quilt top if there is such a thing....hmmm I wouldve thought for the $2670 that I paid I would atleast get some special extra option like a nice detailed flamed top and the darkest rosewood fretboard available.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's old school.
You use to choose between flame and quilt and the quilt was more money, but I'm pretty sure it's just luck of the draw anymore.

Maybe Pete D. or someone will chime in and clarify.

My BFR Quilt Ass was ordered through Pete Dubaldo 6 months ago. I requested "quilt" but I think the option for "flame" was offered? Can't remember,as I'm a quilt kind of guy:

Did you order a BFR, becuase that price is crazy high for a regular Axis.........

Quilt/flame choice is only offered on the BFR instruments. Everything else is luck of the draw.

Black cherry bust is not currently offered on BFR instruments but Ruby burst is. Very similar color!

In the neck pocket of my 2003 Axis, its got "premium" hand written in red marker. Is that the extra option that was available in the past for a better top?

Do you think $2670 AU is about right for a standard axis? Or is that more in the BFR range?

What is the reason that you only get to choose flame vs. quilt on the BFR guitars? I mean I know the BFR's are a more expensive instrument, but what is the reason you have to go with luck of the draw on non BFR guitars? I remember hearing that a while back and I have always been curious about it.
