Hi folks,

After much deliberation and research on the net I think I am ready to pull the trigger on a EB Musicman Axis. Intially I was leaning towards the super sport but now I am leaning towards the Floyd version. I do however have two questions and seek the collective knowledge of the board users =)

1) I have decided on the Transperent Red or Honey Burst Color. What is a fair price for a new purchase. I will most likely buy at Guitar Center as they have some of these guitars in the areas nearby.

2) I have never had a guitar that didnt have a fully floating floyd rose. What are the main differences between floating and non floating? I have read that the pitch can only be modified one way, other then this what should I be aware of? If you change the strings do you need to do one at a time like you would on a floating trem, or can you do them all at once like on a fender type bridge?

Thanks for your advice. Looking foward to owning a Axis...

First, we don't discuss street prices here. EBMM frowns upon that. Used prices and MSRP are fair game.

I believe you could change all strings at the same time, but I've never done that. I have a floating Ib@nez Edge trem from the early 90's, which I had blocked up to only go down in pitch. I had just changed the strings one by one. On my F3nd3r, I found that changing strings all at once was more trouble for me than it was worth. I had too much trouble getting the thing back in tune after that.

Changing em one by one is generally done so the bridge doesn't pop off the posts when the tension is removed. It can easily be put back, but it could damage your finish if it came off. That being said, I often remove the strings all at once, to wipe off the neck. When I do, I wedge a taped pencil under the back of the bridge to keep it from popping off.

some quick answers:

*Honey-burst rocks!
*see Roburado's post regards to pricing
*I have always changed strings one at a time - probably cause I never learnt how to do it any other way:D

cheers and happy shopping

Can not go wrong with what ever decision you make but I would prefer an ASS Trans Red, I am prejudice since thats the color of my AL and I like it:) And as I have I said before and will say many more times the only Floyd I like is PINK FLOYD:)

Dont change the strings all at once with out blocking the trem, I did that years ago to clean the neck on an EVH back in 95 and it popped off and damaged the finish, I had to have it redone by pro in LA where I was living at the time and it cost me a fortune, as for price, shop around or PM me and I will tell you what your looking for, but I would call Pete Dubaldo who posts here, he has some aggresive pricing and balls in stock -

Personal word of advice here..

If you are used to using a fully floating system, be sure to try a non-floater before buying.

I have both an Axis and a Floyd equipped Y2D (also non-floating), and this is my least favourite aspect of both instruments.

It depends how you play and if you are mostly a dive bomb merchant then it may not trouble you, but I like to use the arm for fairly subtle 'wobbles' etc and I find the down-only system to be of little use for this.

BTW unless you are fixed on an Axis, have a look at a Petrucci - these have the best floating trem on the market.

Happy hunting!:D
