Any help or comments re ideal trem setup for a 2002 axis I bought second hand. It started my musicman interest so has a lot to answer for.
I've just re-strung with 9's as I am learning that some of these guitars just do play better with finer strings (usually use 10's)
Re-the trem setup I know its meant to be flat but if you have it flat on the body then bend strings it "clunks" against the body when you let the string bend down again--better with a very slight tilt

I notice my AL HH and BFR have some soft tape under the trems

Any comments please?

many thanks again

Lol. Great avatar Willy.

Willy will get you sorted Pete, but I agree with your assessment. I like a very slight tilt on my axis trem as well.

So is there a fix or some sort of tape that goes under the Floyd? My Axis doesn't have anything either and if I'm not careful I'll get that clunk too.

thanks,

Hi Fred

The only way I could prevent it is by a slight forward lean just a few mm ie not setting up as advised but slight float to the trem

You could also increase back pull on the trem through the springs (add more, or screw in the spring claw). My Axis came with additional springs. That will make the term more inert.

I install a block in the back (spring cavity) so that the trem won't hit the top of the guitar.
I also set the springs just tight enough so that I can do a whole step bend and the trem will not lift up.
If I do any more than a whole step bend the trem will just start to lift.
This way I still get a soft feel when using the trem but it stays put for most of my playing.:D
I use small blocks of hard maple for the trem blocks, they work great.
I hope that this helps.
