The triple singlecoil Axis Sports are hard to find - they don't crop up on Ebay often, and if they went cheap I'd have one already. Royal's prices - iirc - aren't the lowest I've ever come across, but if you can find a NOS Axis Sport with three singlecoils anywhere else for less, you're a better bargain hunter than I am...

I think this is one of those cases where you have to ask yourself if it's worth it to you. You know the quality is there. It's just a matter of deciding if you can afford it...

If it's something you want, the only person the price should matter to is you. "How much do I want it?" is what you should be asking yourself. It's the same thing I asked myself when I found a Blue Dawn Axis Sport, the Blue Dawn Albert Lee, and the Blue Dawn JP.

If it's something you truly desire, and you are willing to pay as much as the seller is asking, then it's a fair price. If not, then try negotiating, or you can wait and hope that another one pops up. Maybe one will, maybe one won't. This factors into the "how much would I pay?" part.

I actully paid an awful lot less for my SSS than my HH version, but I guess this was because they wanted to move it on.

Hmm, this doesn't help you at all does it? :D

Good luck with tracking one down though. :)
