Ok, sport owners, help me out here...

am I correct in thinking that the pickups in the sport are actually different from those that are in the floyd axis & the SS?

No they are the same.
Sounds a bit different due to the other contributing factors.
The tone control, 5 way switch and the different bridge.

This question comes up all the time.

The pickups in the EVH, Axis Sport and Axis are all the same despite the colour difference. (EVH had 2 wires not 4, and the Sport pickups are often black not zebra.)

The Sport will sound different to the other two, given that the body is made from Ash, as opposed to the basswood/maple combination of the Axis/EVH/ASS.

Earlier models of the sport had a pickguard (although the p-ups where still screwed straight to the body). The early models came in HH, HSS and SSS. Later on the models were changed with MM90's and HH being offered, but without the pickguard option.

They're really great guitars and if you get the chance you should definitely try to pick one up.

I love my Axis Sport & the fact that it doesn't sound the same as my EVH. If you have an opportunity to find a used Sport somewhere, don't pass it up.

Actually, does anyone know why production stopped on the Sport models? Did they not sell well?
