i have a quick question about the axis sport. i had completly forgot that they made these for awhile and now wanting a 3 single coil guitar i am looking for one. i know some came with out the pickguard which i would love but may be hard to find i can deal. i know that with the troubles i have had trying to play my other guitars compared to my evh/axis guitars i should just get a sport and not another brand. my question is what are the pickups in the sport? i have no clue about them and anyone who could help thanks. i am talking about the 3 single coil sport not the humbucker one.

They're custom wound Dimarzio single coils that came in the Axis Sport. Peter Prown reviewed a S/S/S Axis Sport in the January 1998 Guitar Shop, and here's what he said about the pickups:
But the real standout attractions on the body are the DiMarzio single-coils that were wound for this guitar. They are so well-voiced for this ash-bodied guitar, it's scary. Running through a variety of amps, the Axis Sport sounded superb, especially for clean work. Ash tends to have a fat bottom-end and somewhat bell-like tones, and this Axis didn't disappoint in that regard. Both the neck only and the neck/middle pickup combinations really caught my attention for fatness and warmth. I can't think of many other solidbodies that sound this good on clean settings. In fact, if you go to the neck pickup and bring the tone knob down a dash, you can play any jazz gig on the planet, solidbody or not. Bravo, Ernie Ball. The guitar also comes with the company's patented "Silent Circuit", which reduces the noise traditionally associated with single-coils. Nice touch.

J, I had a Sport, though it was SSH. It sounded really nice, both the singles and Bucker, clean or dirty, a bit on the bright side due to the ash body and maple board. The neck shape wasn't right for me so I sold it.

I've got a trans red SSS with black pickgard and MM trem.

It's a really sweet guitar to play and has an amazing clean sound to it.

Good luck with finding one, I'm sure you'll love it :)

yeah will keep the search going till i find one. not gonna buy anything till i get one of those. after i find one gonna get a gotoh floyd and have it installed. no i am not against fixed bridges but i am very use to floyd's and it is very comfortable for my pick hand to rest on. feels a little akward when playing fixed bridge guitars.

i am guessing the neck on the sport is the same as the evh and axis correct.

Um, I'm not really sure. Mine had an asymetrical shape, thicker by the thumb, tapered toward the bottom. It was very nice, just not right for my hands.

I love my Axis Sport, it's such a great guitar even though it's just the HH configuration. :D
