I'm gonna guess and say it's NOS as if it was a new build it would prob have the larger fret markers that JH has on most of his guitars.

The Axis Sport is my favorite EBMM guitar. I want a SSS pretty bad but when they pop up it's always with a maple board. I love the pickguards in a major way. It would be great to see them come back but I doubt they would. I think that the Sterling line should have a simple Sport model without the binding and flashy top.

This! I'm holding out hope that Hiland can work something out to bring the Axis Sport out again as and EBMM. BUT, SbMM is making some amazing instruments these days, so a Sterling AxSport SSS would be a great option!
