I am super interested in this guitar and that pickup configuration and have been on the hunt for one. Who here owns one? What are your thoughts? Of course I would love to see some photos.

Me! Only the best EBMM that I've ever owned, and I've owned 29 over the years!!! My one just has some magic to it...I did briefly own a sunburst trem SSS as well but it paled in comparison to my hardtail.

Would LOVE to have one of those with a rosewood neck and a tele bridge pickup too!

So what would you say is the reason for that?

I'm big into tremolos, so I'd wonder about no locking nut on these. I've seen the ones with the P90's, and the SSH's are really rare in purple, but I've never seen a purple SSS. Did they make them?

I do understand the appeal of the Axis Sport, just a nice and simple guitar. What pickups are in these? Same as the Silhouette?

That natural one just looks so great!

it's Di Marzio pickup inside, might be the same as the Silo Spec but can't be 100% sure. the big sound difreence is coming from the wood in my opinion. Ash body and single coils is a killing combination. That being said the sound of the AS SSS is realy not the same as the AL SSS and the reason for that is the PUPS one is using Di Marzio the other iis using Seymour duncan

in the end, if you can have 3 AL SSS, Silo Spec SSS and AS SSS you will have 3 differents sounds to enjoy :)

forgot to add that those Axis Sport with SSS have a strong vintage vibe and this is what makes them special

I'm big into tremolos, so I'd wonder about no locking nut on these.

From the first chord I ever played on it I knew it felt different, special, hard to explain but this one felt instantly right to me and almost played itself, then tonally it has a great snap that sounds great clean but raunches up nicely. I've never been disappointed by EBMM guitars (although some used ones desperately needed a setup) and have owned some extremely nice, very pretty models in the past but this "simple as a cheese sandwich" Sport instantly became my favourite. Also I'm leaning more towards vintage looking gear these days and it ticks that box too!

To your other point, when you get a guitar with a Music Man vintage tremolo you'll sell your guitars with floyds! You will be amazed by the stability and feel!

I had 2 Axis Sports HH and 1 Axis Sport MM90's. I have to say that I have always loved the sound and feel of the Axis Sport. Just such a simple guitar, nothing fancy, but just loves being played. I've always seem them as the underdog of the EBMM line. They tend to sell cheap and there are lots out there.

Mmm, they are still hard to find here in Europe.

I've seen some with translucent finishes and some in opaque colors. Where these offered during the same period? Any difference in body wood, or are they all ash?

Looking into a creme coloured HSS with a black pickguard right now..

I saw one of these for sale near me about a decade ago. Creme-sh finish. I think the guy wanted $550 for it. I am kicking myself to this day that I did not pull the trigger on it.

Just bumping this old thread up as I'd love to see some more pics of the Axis Sport in the SSS config or hear anymore interesting stories anyone has. Being from the UK, rarely does an Axis Sport come up on eBay or for sale elsewhere, never mind an SSS!

Anyone from the UK even have one? I'm beginning to think it's a bit of a lost cause waiting for one to come up but I would still really like one. Not a fan of the Silhouette Special neck so that's not really an option. The Albert Lee, perhaps, but I do like the Axis body size/neck.

Were these guitars in the SSS config a mass produced model? I know EBMM doesn't release productions numbers but anyone who is knowledgable of that period of the company history, do you remember seeing many new ones around the time they were first made?

Axis Sport SSS! I've had two of them. I miss my old sunburst one the most. Here's the last one I had in action:

threeminutesboy ... PM Sent :)

and Dojo, funny that you should post your video as I saw that when it was put up on eBay (I am from the UK so would have been a bit of a job to sort out customs/postage). That video sounds great, I always thought I'd like one, but not until I saw your video did I realise that I REALLY wanted one, haha!
