I touched on this in my pickup height thread, but thought I would post again. My Vintage 2 point tremelo rests flat on the body of my guitar. Most 2 point tremelo set-up guides that I have read say to have the front edge 1/16" above the body, and slightly higher in the rear for a "floating" trem. I know that if a string breaks, the tuning goes south. My rt650 Ibanez is set this way, and does well. Anybody else have their bridge set to float? Thanks, Bryce

ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE APPRECIATED

Timely post

I just took my Axis SS in for a setup for this very reason. A couple of times when I broke a string, the guitar came out of tune so badly, that I had to stop playing.

I decided to perform a set up on it myself. I set it up, like the FAQs suggest, as a floating bridge. However, the FAQs say not to tighten the springs too much. I always get nervous the 1st time working on something when someone makes a statement like this.

My setup helped somewhat, but I wanted someone that had experience setting up tremelos to look at it. The references I was looking at said to play the open low E string and bend the G string at the 12th fret. The E note should only go slightly flat. Without experience setting up a tremelo, I didn't know how flat "slightly" flat is.
