I am definately intersted in purchasing an ASS with basswood body and rosewood fretboard but I just need to make sure it's going to suit my style. I can change the pickups if that's necessary. I play jam band music like phish, so I don't use a lot of gain. I use a modified tubescreamer for my distortion and I use an Analogman Bicomprossor in front of that. I also use an RMC 2 Wah and a DD6 delay and I am running into a Mesa Boogie Mark III Blue Stripe Combo. Do you think this guitar would suit my style? Can it get a jazzy sound at all?

the ASS is definitly one versatile guitar with 5 killing sound. The rosewood is also a good choice :)

But

if you don't like too much gain try the MM90 pickup but the body is ash instead of basswood

Hmmm, I dunno, Ash is probably too bright for me. I do like humbuckers, sort of a 59 PAF sound is what I'm looking for. Like I said, switching out the pups is always an option, but I've heard that some people have had problems putting in diferent pups. Like seymour duncans didn't fit in properly. Is this true and is there a way around this?

I've got one listed in the FS section, but it's a maple fretboard. But, the tonal variations are there. Killer sounds. To each his own, but I don't know why you'd want to switch the pickups in this guitar. My teacher,(a G.I.T. grad) played through it, and had some sweet jazz coming out. I don't think you'll be disappointed with one of these.

Alright, I'm sure the pups are sweet, and I'm definately down with keeping them in there, I just wanted to make sure I could get the sounds that I want form them. As far as the MM 90 version, I've never really played with soapbars, so I don't know what they sound like, and I don't think I would have the chance to play one with MM 90s in person. So if I ended up getting an MM 90, and didn't like it, I'd have to sell the whole guitar.

I've never played through your amp (well of course not yours but one like it ...) but the ASS can cover a lot of ground, including Jazz. So I'd think you'd be OK with it.

If you're concerned, why not find a local dealer and spend some time with one? Lots to be had. I'm sure you can find a place to bring your amp in to test it out if need be.

Where should I post a Want to Buy thread? Is it okay to post it on this part of the forum? I think it would be easier for people to see if I posted it in the music man guitars sections, and not the for sale thread, since it would just be a post there and not a thread of its own. Anyway, just wanted to make sure it was ok to post in this section. Thanks.

I have recently purchased an ASS with rosewood board - It is very versatile and i have already used it for a function gig where it covered all bases perfectly!

Cheers

This Axis SS is indeed a great guitar, and very versatile, definitely underrated in its versatility.

I used to have one, and I miss it! I've got to get another one someday...
