Hello all, long time lurker, I thought I'd finally add some content rather than just comments.

With the new Al HH coming out, I've seen some threads here regarding the sound of the Axis SS pickups. I went through my collection of live recordings to see what I have that might aid the conversation, and found the attached song. It features Blues/Soul legend singer Frankie Lee. I've been his bandleader for about 6 years.

The song was recorded live in 2006 and features Rosy plugged straight into a Mesa Blue Angel 2 x 10 combo. One cable set up. The guitar would have had a fresh set of Slinkys (.10s) installed.

IIRC, the whole song was played with the outside coils selected. Certainly the solo sounds that way. I suspect many Al HH players will love this setting. For more straight ahead blues, the middle position (both pups in parallel) is my usual home.

To my ears, the distinctive nature of the pups (in combo with the rosewood neck) can be heard right before the solo, where you can hear me dragging my fingers across the strings. What I dig is the beautiful resonance and string-to-string separation. Very musical voice. Very unique to this guitar.

Hope this helps. I can search around more if anyone's interested.

-Tim

p.s - rather than put my mug shot on the video, I just put a pic of Rosy, hope that's OK ;)

Very nice. Thanks for sharing. I don't believe I've ever heard those pickups in that clean a setting/style. Thanks for the demo/education.

Tim.

I loved that. We need more blues on the forum like that. Very nice playing and example of the guitar sounds. I love when someone takes a setup and plays something different with it. Less traditional sound for an axis ss.

I love it.

take care
