Axis SS: simple question on knob change

Hi All;

New here, and loving my recently acquired Axis SuperSport with P90's in Black Cherryburst. As soon as I have some pics I'm happy with, I'll post some. (Sorry about the delays on this . . .)

I'm replacing the stock creme plastic parts with black; I have pickup covers from EB, and black metal dome knobs from All Parts that fit split-shaft pots (which an EB representative told me would fit . . .).

I assume the original knobs just pull off, but aren't coming off too easily. Should I just pull harder, or is there something else I should know? Is there a technique to this other than just pull harder?

Im having the same sort of problem with my JP6. One of the volume knobs is quite loose, and i would like to tighten it up but not too sure on how to do it.

Any help would be great

Brian, The knobs on your guitar just pull off.


The JP knobs have set screws. You will need to push the rubber part of the knob down to expose the screw

Brian, the Black Cherry on an Axis looks killer. Where in Toronto did you get it?

True! But when it's snug it can be bee-och! Stewmac sells a tool but try this:
Find a thin piece of fabric such as a t-shirt, a sock, or something similar. Slide the edge of the material underneath the knob and try to get it all the way around. Next twist the fabric up and use it to pull the knob up and off the potentiometer.
Simple when you know how!

A shoe lace will work too.

Scott - the dealer was The Arts in Newmarket. A great store, good guys, helpful and fair. Also a great service / tech department. Even from downtown, worth the trek.

Yeah, I'll say it's a long trek up there. I've been there a couple of times to check out what they had. They guys I dealt with were friendly and helpful.

Be careful how hard you tug the knob out, I did this on a tone pot on my ASS and ripped the shaft off! Be careful!
