Hi Folks,

Just checking on an Axis (NOT an Axis Sport) stoptail with serial # G03854. Guy selling it says it's an in-between model--post EVH, pre Sport. It's the exact thing I was looking for featurewise but I want to make sure it's, you know, real.

Thanks!

Hello Mundy

Don't think they stopped making the Axis when they introduced the sport...it's still about.
If you post this number on the "Serial Number" thread at the top of the thread list, a very helpful EBMM customer service person will probably give you the date it was made.

Not many people would bother faking an EBMM when they could be "relicing" pseudo-Fenders

Thanks!

That's great news! The one I'm looking at is a lot like yr second photo.

I have lately (like in the last 3 days) played and fallen in love with ebmm guitars after 20 years on the Fender/Gibson bandwagon. They're just a lot of fun to play, period.

Any amp recommendations specific to the axis? I'm looking to get a tube combo of some sort...

Hi Mundy,

Welcome to the forum!

This Translucent Gold Axis with a standard bridge was born on 21 October 1998. All signs point to this one being genuine.

All the best,
Beth :)

Hi Mundy, I have a dead mint sunburst with maple board for sale if your interested, I actually have 2 of them so Im gonna let one go to make room for an AL, variety is good, but anyway its mint, not a ding dent or scratch on it and it has a fabulous neck, PM if your interested in talking, BTW they are the best sounding of all the axis styles made in my opinion, im sure Tim will chime in, the hardtail with one volume nob makes for a sonically great tone -

I agree 100%! I even converted my ASS to Axis spec!

Curiously...

What makes this hardtail Axis differ from the ASS? Tim speaks so confidently about them being the best ones out there, so what makes them that much better?

They have only one knob, the tone knob on the ASS changes the sound, I would say for the worse. Also they have the standard Axis 3 way, rather than teh 5 way on the ASS. I much prefer the 3 way to the blade selector thats found on the ASS.

So...?

Removing the 5-way and turning it into a 3-way makes it H-HH-H selection?

What did you do as far as filling in the holes for aesthetics purposes? What sort of effort is involved in doing this procedure? I am interested. I've always been a fan of the Axis tone, and have my ASS Rosewood on the way... I'm curious.

Got any pictures of the finished product for aesthetics?

Yes, it makes it H- HH- H.

As my guitar has the sparkle finish, Charlie Chandler took some paint overspray from the cavity, filled the hole, and used the paint to cover the top. Its a great job!

You can see how its done in certain lights:

But for the most part its invisible.

Oooh.

That looks mighty good. I wonder how it would look with the Rosewood. Probably pretty easy to fill in as well. I like what we're saying here. does EBMM make a 3-way that would retro-fit?

I remember a guy was selling a KILLER purple hardtail Axis here in NY. He was asking too much for it, but I wish I still had his email.

Could you just de-solder the tone knob to get it the Super Sport to sound like the Axis?

I have an Axis and an ASS, and both are hardtails.

The ASS definitely sounds different to the Axis, a bit more polite, which I could certainly believe was down to the different tone configuration.

I actually like the fact that the ASS has a different sound, plus the 2 extra pickup configs from the 5-way switch, it gives me the variety I was looking for.

I do like the Axis volume control though, and the way you can roll off some of the highs just by rolling back the volume a little.

The next question for me is what does a Floyd-equipped Axis sound like compared to a hardtail? I like the idea of the Axis sound with a whammy bar and it's always an excuse for an extra Ball! :D

I love the usa flag on tims amp nice touch!

I did a Top Gun themed party once, and the whole amp front was covered in Top Gun stickers. The USA one was one of the stickers, and its the only one that has not fallen off! But I like it, as my young lady is from those fair shores, and I seem to find myself visiting the USA quite a lot lately!

Having played the Stoners Axi with Floyd's, I would say they are a little brighter on the whole than the hard tail.
