Next time I'm up at GC I'll have to run it through it's paces. Thanks for giving me detailed info from your experiences.

Looking back at my posts it might look like I'm trying to rain on your parade (amp) but that isn't my intention at all. I apologize if it comes across as that. I just want to make the best decision for my hard-earned cash. Unlike guitars, my next amp purchase will be my last for a long long time.

I did not feel that way. This all subjective and what I like you might not. I think you will find this thing does most everything very well. Is it for everyone, probably not, but that is what makes the world go round.

The Stoner has the head version of this amp for about 5 minutes, and then sold it. I don't think he liked it that much, though I never got to play through it.

For everyone that likes a piece of gear there will be 10 that probably hate it. Just go on eBay and look at all the best gear that is for sale. You wonder why anyone would sell such a great guitar or amp. It seems to be the never ending chase for the next best thing. Been there done that. It would not surprise me if I get to this point with this amp as well. For now I think it is the best thing since sliced bread.

Hi all

I'm currently using a Switchblade head in preference to my old Marshall JMP1 / TC G-Force / Boogie 50:50 based rack set up which is currently sitting unloved and unused.

Cleans are much better.

Crunch is much better.

Leads are great.

Plenty of variation across the four channels.

FX are fine if like me you just want to add a touch of 'verb/delay/chorus etc here and there.

Presets are great. Programming is easy. Only gripe is lack of front panel patch display. Comes loaded with loads of highly usable presets now.

Love the lack of menus and fiddling with parameters bo**ocks. Just turn the knobs to find your sound.

Early footswitches were fitted with sub standard cable. Mine fractured very soon.

UK distributer sent out a new one now fitted with super-duper Van Damme cable the next day. No probs since then.

It is very loud. Use mine through a THD Hotplate at home AND at gigs!

Fantastic amp. Highly recommended. Haven't tried the combo but would imagine very similar.

Oh and apparently Lifeson has changed his Zenteras to Switchblades for the current tour.

If it's good enough for Lerxst.............:D

I can't wait until I can try this amp out! It'll probably be like 3 weeks before I get to do so.
I spoke with a dealer who is about 4 hours away from my house. He said these amps are flying out the door. He also said he passes by my house every week when travelling stateside. He offered to drop off the amp to my house! I had to slow him down a tad, and told him I wanted to test the amp first.

Axis Sport (or somebody else!),

I'm looking at the 50w combo (obviously!)
The website shows picutres of the amps. Now I wanted to see what there was on the back panel, but they only have a pic of the head version and not the combo.
Could someone tell me what's back there as far as possibly connections for effects loops, etc......?

Fogman, I am still loving mine. If you go to the Hughes & Kettner website and go to downloads and look under pro class you can down load the manual. Look on page 18 and it will show you all the info on the back panel. See if you can get to this link from Ebay. HUGHES & KETTNER H K SWITCHBLADE 100 2X12 COMBO - NICE! - (eBay item 160149158801 end time Aug-25-07 14:57:21 PDT)

If not go to completed listings under Hughes & Kettner and this listing has nice shots of the back.

Hope that helps.

No problem. Is the guy you are talking to from the PM I sent you? If so, I hope he is giving you a good deal.

Take care.

No, though I talked to him too though.
I just have to look into what the duty across the border will be.
Also what happens with warranty issues.

Thanks again!
I'll keep you posted. :)

Warranty should be able to be handled with any authorized dealer?

Maybe the guy that drives by your house would let you purchase it with the ablity to return it if you are not happy. Have him drop it one week and pick it up the next if you are not happy. Just a suggestion.

Good luck

I just scored a 2X12 combo from eBay for a STEAL. Don't have it yet, but I had just bought the 100 wt head as a blem from musicians friend for what I thought was a good price and the deal I got on the bay slayed that one. I love this amp so far. I will be sending back the head version once the combo arrives.

I had a mark 1 tri amp and the tones on it were astoundingly good, they have improved and remarketed it as the Lifeson amp now afaik.

I wasn't planning on it.
I just got their name from the dealer search.
But Hell! It's a lot closer to me then I thought.
I might have to check it out.
Have you even been there? Is it nice? A dive?

Yeah. I've been there. You're right it's not that far from you. It's probably about 20-25 min. drive from Detroit. So, add that to however long it would take you to cross the border.

It's a pretty nice store. They have some very nice things there. Last time I was in there, I was just looking to see if they had any new Balls and Mesas. IIRC there were two JP6s (MD and PRB), and there was a Mark IV. It was more for satisfying my curiosity than for the sake of buying anything. More on that later.

I believe I saw one of those 50W combos, but I'm not really sure. I haven't done much research on them. So, I'm not sure what I saw, but it was a combo.

They annoyed me one day, and I've never been back to buy anything. I was trying to find the post in which I told the story. It was in one of those "How is your local dealer" threads. Alas, searching "how is your local dealer" did not find me the thread, strangely enough. Maybe, I just missed it. IIRC, it was in that same thread that Jeffrey started. Anyway, I've got a bit of an "I'm not giving them any of my money" attitude when it comes to them, but if your amp is there, well...far be it from me to tell you not to buy from them. It should be worth a look and worth investigating how much it would cost you, how much hassle, etc.
