help anyone. i'm just about to buy a musicman axis super sport rosewood over the internet and have never played an axis before. i looked at some of the maple neck ones at a guitar show recently but didn't get round to trying one. so this is new territory for me. any info on sound differences and feedback about the axis will be appreciated.

rosewood fretboard, or all rosewood neck/fretboard and top of body?

If the latter (rw neck/fretboard, etc) I have one and love it. Had it for 2+ years after 15 years on an EVH. Maybe a little darker/warmer tone, but very similar to me. Great feeling neck, fretboard and overall guitar.

Get it!

.....or the BFR Axis with a normal, awsome basswood/maple body and all rosewood neck?

(I really like those....played several, didn't buy one....still wondering why I didn't....oh, yah....the Al)

rosewood axis

thanks guys. only seem to be hearing good things about them. the one i'm looking at is a hardtail. have either of you compared sound differences between hardtail and trem models?
i should just buy it and find out for myself but i'm a bit nervous as i'm buying it without trying it!

Hardtails rule, you will have a killer guitar, man buy it especially if the price is right, if not point the knuncks in the right direction and someone will snag it:)

Yep,i've got a rosewood axis hardtail and its great, some very versatile sounds, its realy light too.Worth thinking about fitting a coil tap as this gives you some extra killer tones.

Buy with confidence.:D

Let me just say that the Axis is my favorite EBMM guitar, though when my AL HH arrives it may drop to second. But please take my advice and go play any Axis you can get your hands on so you can make sure you gel with everything , most importantly the neck.I made this noob like mistake after 30 years and bought a guitar I never played and the neck was just not to my liking, so it is better to be safe than sorry.

too late stray cat, it's in the post. i have played an albert lee that a guy at the local blues jam has got and loved the neck on that. not sure if the necks are the same though.

I read Hamilton Loomis' description of his Axis on his web site and was so intrigued I bought one from MF without ever playing one. (Talk about your impulse purchases). Now to give you some perspective, I brought this beautiful guitar into a home studio stacked to the ceiling with strats, teles, and Ric 12's without a humbucker in site. My Axis SS has nudged, elbowed, and played its way to the top of the heap..........incredible guitar. Now I'm starting to look at Lukes and AL's. In the words of Jim Carey........"somebody stop me". :D

All will be good if you liked the neck on the AL, the Axis is right at the top of the heap of best guitar designs of the last 20 years, you will love it.Let us know how she plays when it arrives.

Humley- I was in the same situation though I did own one EBMM EVH as my only true humbucking guitar, the other being a modded Tele. Well my last 8 purchases have all been Balls with two more on order. The hardest part is just when you think you can take a rest, Sterling will come up with something that you just have to have.

rosewood axis super sport arrived on friday.
looks and sounds great. i was unsure about the neck as i am used to a fairly club like les paul, but i have been playing it all weekend and took it to rehearsal last night and i think we have well and truly bonded. (what is the idea of the asymetric neck?)
the out of phase pickup settings sound great through my lazy j 20 amp especially with a gallon of reverb.
no regrets with this purchase, just need to sell the tele to pay for it.
cheers all!
