I don't believe there was ever an Axis Super Sport in that configuration. The Super Sport with with a maple cap came with either spiltable buckers with a basswood body or MM90's with an ash body. Either had a hard tail or vintage trem and no guard.

Before the Super Sport was a now discontinued model known simply as the Axis Sport. That came in: s/s/s, h/s/s, h/h, and 90's. It was solid ash and came both with or without picguards(not sure about the 90's) and had similar trem options. They were discontinued around the turn of the century,

If you search Axis Sports there should be plenty of photos

good luck

I think foggy summarize it pretty well

Model was available with Pickguard then without
Ash body, DiMarzio pups, silent circuit

colors were Trans blue, Trans red, Trans green, Trans purple, Trans Gold (not sure about Trans orange) and vintage Sunburst

Some solid colors were available later for the Axis Sport but I have never seen a SSS like that.

The special one made for Steve Lukather is Trans white (SSS and Luke neck)

I've posted this before but here's a better pic that I took after I got it home and cleaned it up:

Well I'm a fanboy too then. I love both styles, but prefer it with the pickguard.

Those are really sweet looking. What was the price approx for them?

They come up on eBay here and there. Not as much as they use to, but the prices are very reasonable.

I hope to scoop one up someday.

Thank you Fogman. The Luke Sport has to be very rare. I'm wondering if Music Man might bring this model S/S/S back? I think they look great both ways with the pickguard and without. Thanks again

Never say never, but I don't think they'd bring back a SSS version of the Super Sport, or Sport. Shame, as they're fantastic guitars.

That Luke, Axis was prior to the Luke model. It's a one off for Luke.
