Axis Trem Hell

I am in desperate need of help.

While doing a restring of my Axis last week the bridge dropped off of my guitar. I put the springs back on and finished the restring as normal but since then whenever i try to use the tremolo arm my G string goes wildly out of tune.

If anyone can explain to me why this is happening I'd be forever grateful.

You should replace a string at a time when restringing - not them all at once....
I'd take it to a tech for a setup as it is perhaps due for one anyway!

I had the exact same thing afew weeks ago, I thought my machinehead was going. It was the windings around the ball end of the string that were unwinding - just a duff string. Try changing just the G string to see if that helps.

I would take it to the dealer or your local techie. You are going to get 90,000 different "fixes" here by all of us....lol

I assume your guitar is an older Axis with locking nut and FR locking trem. If not, it changes everything.

Assuming the above is correct; to have just one string go out of tune (it doesn't matter which string) makes it sooooo easy to remedy. i.e., it's pretty much centered on that particular string, somewhere from the top of the headstock to the bottom of the guitar.

1. Replace that string (even if the other string was brand new).
if still out
2. make SURE the trem comes to rest fully on the body of the guitar!!
if still out
3. check the locking nut (yes, just to make sure you locked it).
if still out
4. check the entire bridge area of that string e.g., intonation screw, string lock block, string lock screw.

There, now that it is fixed, which one was it??

Cheers for all the advice. Unfortunately the problem is still unremedied.

The guitar has been restrung 4 times and the problem remains.

The only thing i can think of is that when i reattatched the springs after the bridge fell out did i put them back in the wrong place?

I'm still trying to get my head around how the bridge "dropped out" of your guitar!?!?

It's a Floyd? The whole thing just dropped out of there? Even with no strings, weren't the springs holding it firmly in place?

Maybe when it hit the floor the G string's little fine tuner hit and the screw threads were stripped/notched. hmm, wierd.

The MM Floyd actually just rests on the trem posts, so if all the strings are removed, the trem can fall off. That's why it's recommended that you change strings one at a time.

I'd say it's time to take it to your dealer, or a good guitar tech, or even give EBMM customer service a call.
