Help! AXIS X purts ?

I'm going to take a peek at this axis that is up for sale - I'm up in Scotland working and it will be just down the road.
Its a 90's Axis that used to belong to Kompressor and I'd like some input from fellow knuckleheads.

It has no pickguard and Komp says that when he had it there were no holes and as far as he knew it was built without one.

It has a 3 pickup config - I guess that config is kosher too?

Also it has locking machine heads and a recessed neckplate.

Does everything seem "tickerty boo" to you Axis experts out there?

Gonna assume Axis Sport.

HSS config was available.
Don't know if pickguards were an option to order with or without but the HSS looks cool with them. Mine has both the recessed neckplate and locking tuners.

That's pretty much your classic Axis Sport that you're looking at there.
My second Ball was a Pewter Grey MM90 Sport and whilst it did come fitted with a Chandler Pickguard (sticker on the underside) it wasn't there to hide any cable channels like on your Albert so I think that the plates on the Sports may have been optional.

Further to that, my one also came with the locking pegs, the recessed plate et al. All in all a cracking guitar.

Also I would say that 99.9% of my forum trades have been with Komp (although never a Sport) and he's a rock solid, superstar guy, so I'd say he can be trusted absolutely.

And didn't Komp buy it from a friend of Dave B ?, I think that the provenance of this guitar is pretty much 'all there' Spud.

Komp said that the neck was like a baseball bat - which is not my cup of tea.
Still if I really liked it then I could have the neck reprofiled by a guitar building buddy of mine.

After all - it is black !!!

I have been trying to get a hardtail EVH but there doesn't seem to be many about.

I was surprised to see you expressing an interest in this guitar.
I know that you've hinted at an Axis interest over the past year but I thought when the time came you were basically going to head to West London and just torment Tim O'Sullivan until he crumbled and sold you one of his.

Spud,here's the pics of when I had it posted up for all to see

the guitar belonged to DaveB at machinehead who sold it to SteveH on these boards and then me.

it had the locking Schallers,recessed backplate,old style case and definetely no pickguard screwholes. It had a bigger neck than my other Axii which was the reason I moved it on

it was/is a fine example of a Sport and black/maple is just sooo cool. It's well worth what is being asked imo if the condition is pretty much the same as when i had it.

Komp. you know it's funny I've been thinking about trying to get that guitar back lately as well.

Mind you with the finances being where they are it's probably not going to happen any time soon even if Dave did want to sell it back to me which I don't think he does.

Oh well.

How long have you had a Trans Gold Axis ?

Spud, everything looks good with that one.

It's quite a rare version, as there weren't that many made without the pick-guard. It would be '97-'98, although my guess is that it's a '98 model that was made in the 'transition' period (near to the time when the SSS and HSS models were dropped).

Definitely worth a look....

That is a great looking Sport. I'd grab it in a heartbeat if it were on this side of the pond. If it's reasonably priced ... go for it!

I've always admired that Axis Sport. I'm with BJ, if I could jump on it I would, very different with the 3 pups and no PG.

Hi, I actually bought this guitar beore I came across the thread in the forums, I was a bit worried as I thought the guy selling it was maybe selling it more then once (paranoid I know) anyway it arrived yesterday and it all seems as it should.

It's my first musicman and I like it lots but I would like some advice from you officianados;

Can you give me a history of the guitar? I note it has changed hands a few times and thought I probably wouldn't have the opportunity to find out it's history again

Also can you tell me what pickups it has in it? I am not expert but I would like to know if they are Dimarzios or EB's own or what. It has a Musicman Trem and I'm guessing it only flattens notes, before I waste hours tryingto get it to sharpen notes perhaps someone can put me straight?

It has 2 screws missing of one of the black covers on the back of the guitar, call me anal but can I buy replacements anywhere?

Finally how do I track down the serial number ? is there a database anywhere?

I hope Spudmurphy doesn't feel too disappointed, I promise I bought it before I came across the thread (which reassured me as to it's quality).

Post the serial number in the "My guitar's serial number is....." thread at the top of the index page & a helpful Customer Services person will date it for you

If you contact CS they will also help you with the screws....though your local hardware shop might be faster as I assume EBMM don't actually produce custom screws

So anyway, I bought it , I love it but it had 2 screws missing from the back plate which covers the strings on the back

So I mentioned it on the board when tracking down it's history on serial number thread, Dan at EB very kindly sent me some new screws free of charge from the USA to the UK. Now that is what I call customer service!!!

No sweat - I was kinda wondering if I'd lost out on it after posting the thread here, and from what you said that's not the case.

After going to to LIM exhibition last weekend I'm pretty much hankering after a
Petrucci Mystic dream, natural headstock piezo minus the shield inlays.

Also Komp said that the neck may have been too big for my liking.
