hey guys..was just at guitar center (by the way, didn't know where else on the site to post this so this one gets the most traffic so here it is) and was jamming away on a wolfgang through a marshall for a little bit..the action was great..it was fixed bridge..anywho, my buddy agrees with some of the action advice I've been getting..'shim the neck and the action'll be better'..so that's probably what we'll do..he's good with it so we'll see..either that or I'll have a tech set it up at GC

anywho, on our way out I noticed a B-52 AT-100 amp..I plugged in and i'll be DAMNED if the thing didn't blow my head off..even at up close and personal levels..now, I only played through it for about ten minutes, but I'm going back this weekend..and if I really do like it that much, I'm going to trade in my vetta or sell it and pick this amp up...with 12 month financing, I'll have plenty of time to decided what to do with my line 6...

as for guitarmageddon..the guy at the store heard me play and asked if I signed up for it...I said no..and he thinks I could hold my own....so I think I may just do that at my local store this weekend...

anyway, anyone know anything about the b-52 amps? I've heard nothing but good reviews about them on harmony central and musician's friend....thanks in advance!

Personally, when I tried the b-52, I felt it was garbage. It should be noted however, that I love the tube sounds. Not fond of solid state, at all.

There are several factors that play into the action on your guitar. Just saying "shim the neck and your action will be better" doesn't really take any of them into consideration.

Shimming is one thing that can help. Just be sure your truss rod and bridge are properly adjusted before you even think of shimming. This wouldn't be the case on your Wolfgang but generally speaking you also want to make sure your nut is filed correctly too.

Experimenting with shims can't really hurt if you're careful with the screwdriver and such. But I wouldn't just say shimming is a magic pill. Play around with it and see what you find.

I played around with shims on my EVH a couple of years ago. I finally settled on a thicker shim than the one that was installed at the factory. It did improve the action on the upper frets. So it can help. Just make sure everything else is right before you hang your hat on the shim.

My impression of B-52's are that they do one thing pretty well, and virtually nothing else. One trick pony. But if you like that trick, go for it.

Personally, I use a Line 6 Vetta II and will not get rid of it. However, if you like the B-52, then by all means....get it. It really doesn't matter what I or anyone else has to say. If it is what you like, get it. I used to use Marshall and I love the amp. Just could not get the tone I was seeking as I could in my Vetta.

Guitarmageddon is something that can be fun I guess. I am too critical of my playing and don't feel like I should do it. I have been told to play in it, but, I am not confident in my guitar playing to try. I say do it and let the chips fall where they may. I am leaning towards playing in it this time around. I have to get over the fact of being so critical of my playing and just let it flow.

Good luck. You never know, you might just win it all!

the b-52 at-100 is rad, it's us made, all tube with tri-mode rectifier..

it's a boutique design that's not boutique built.

buy it if you want to bring the rock.

i want a new amp ... spent some part of this morning fixing my Fender Blues Junior and my crappy Marshall MG250DFX (stupid solid state ... why'd i buy it??). the whole amp/distortion pedal/guitar combo thing is annoying. With bass i have "my gear" and it sounds exactly how i want ... with my new found interest in playing the 6 im starting the whole "finding my sound" process over again. a lot of $ and time and gear later im sure ill get it right :)

im looking to get a combo amp that can put out a range of sounds from Social Distortion to Slayer ... and some Stray Cats-ish sounds on the clean side. any suggestions are very welcome (my guitar list is in my sig)

anyways ... i really just wanted to get post 500 out of the way. now i'm 1/2 the forumite that Raz is :)
