A couple of months ago I put a set of Group II flats on my 30th Anniversary SR4. Initially, I really dug the sound, but over time it was less appealing to me. I saved the set of near-new Flea I had taken off, so I put them back on after giving the board a fresh oiling.
The classic Stingray tone is back - the crispness that vanished with the flats has come back in spades. One additional benefit of switching back to rounds is that my hands seem to have built strength from the high tension flats, and my right hand fingerstyle is now faster and more precise.
I'm glad I tried the flats, because while they seem to complement my Fender, I found out that a set of rounds is the best match for my Stingray. YMMV.
