Back Up Amp--Practice Amp

Still on my quest to find that back up amp/practice.

I use a DSL 50 through a Marshall 4x12 for live shows, but we are moving our practice spot and I am planing on leaving my rig there. That being said I need something for home.
I have been looking at the Orange Tiny Terror, and the Marshall DSL 401 Combo.

Any thoughts on these amps, or others---I don't really care if I get a combo, or head and 1x12, or 2x12.

check out the tiny terror if you get the chance!

its a one channel, lightweight, pure tube, awesome sounding amp! use the damper switch to cut power to 7 watts and you can play with the tubes doin their thang without all the neighbors pounding on your door with bills for broken glass in their apartment no police either telling ya to turn it down

get a good boost pedal for those solos and you should be in amp heaven!
(at least if you like that good ole marshall sound )

if you would like an amp if your head craps out on you during the show, I would suggest Crate mini head "Powerblock". It is single channel small head which will fit into small hand bag. It sound really decent and is really cheap

but Digitech GNX4 for a true "practice/backup" amp

If you have a piezo system, check out the GNX4 guitar workstation and a small powered wedge (EV, mackie, JBL). Will get you in one trip from the car. Has extra inputs (including a DBX preamp for the piezo) Built in 8 track digital recorder; that is EZ to use. (to record practice or use as scratch pad) Has compact flash card. Built in drum machine and looper. Plays back MP3 (backing tracks or practice tracks or other teaching info). And, is supported by many 3rd party patch makers.
Tones are very good. (as are most modelers today; a notch below a good tube amp).

I use mine alot as it is powerful, flexible and portable.

roland cube 30..great clean channel,and some really good heavy sounds,too.some of the effects are not great,but all in all,a really good practice amp.....not expensive,either.

I second this choice. I bring one of these too every gig. Your bass player can even use this in case his rig goes down. Fits right in my gig bag and is very loud. Can also hook this directly to a PA. Just stick a distortion pedal in front of it if you need more gain.

+1 on the Tiny Terror and/or the Crate Powerblock as back-up/practice amps.

versatile, easy to move and still gonna get you some usable tones without breakin' the bank

I'd say Tech 21 Tradmark 10, though they don't make them anymore, they are available on the bay for around $150.

The Marshall DSL 401 is small enough to be a practice amp and loud enough to be a stage amp. I use it at home and for gig since 2003. I never had a problem with it (and I never changed the tubes ...).
You have a good sound at low level and you can have power tube distortion (you can play at high level without becoming deaf thanks to the low wattage).
Besides, Marshall amps look great ! Ask Nigel Tufnel ...

+1 on the Tech 21 Trademark 30. I won't leave for a show without it. You plug the SansAmp XLR out of the back right into the PA. It works like a dream.
