You say that quite confidently, would you be willing to put money down on that? :p

But yes, ive sold about 80 things on ebay.

If you search past auctions, an OLP hasnt sold for above even $175. I dont think anyone that owuld be looking into OLPs would care that much about the upgrades to pay that much.

IMO i think you'd have better luck putting the original parts back in and selling the upgraded parts separately, but thats just my opinion, you dont have to listen to me. For all I know you could get $350 for it, as mentioned its just a matter of waiting for the right buyer..
I've seen people sell horseshoe crab shells for $50 & get it. At the Jersey shore they just wash up on the beach.;)
BTW.....I have over 900 feedback....what do you have?

One of my buddies at work sold a chewed-up piece of gum on eBay for $5.00 (free shipping).

He claimed he was front row at the Britney Spears show in Oakland, and it popped out of her mouth during a song.

It took me two days to pull the corners of my mouth out of my ears! :D

I guess shipping is free right?
Easy man...i'm trying to justify your asking price, not discount it.

If the bass was what i'm loooking for, it would be an attractive option, as that's what i'd be doing to it (getting a hardshell and upgrading the electronics) anyways. It's definitely top dollar for that option though, but there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm unloading an amp to help fund a more expensive amp that I plan on picking up pretty soon. You better believe i'll be looking for top dollar to soften the blow. And there's nothing wrong with that if the buyer feels comfortable with the price.

Isnt that some sort of fraud?

What can you do...he's a Dutch immigrant with no shame. :D

Besides, what loser would buy a chewed-up stick of gum in the first place...on eBay for that matter...?

No offense, but good luck getting that price for it, despite the upgrades..
So true. One of my fave basses cost me $140, fully modded, very upgraded, and that's $140 retail at a GC, so the good doctor who did all the surgery probably got $90 as trade-in. The patient began life as some sort of Yamaha P-type, but when I got it, it had a Bartolini P-PU and an AllParts lined ebony fretless with antique finish on the back. The upgrade parts alone would cost twice the selling price that I payed for it as ready-to-play.

The other half of the price question is "What else does $350 buy"? In my recent experiences, $350 buys some seriously kickass basses. Actually, for another $50 I bought my Sabre, with original hard case, just last year, at retail over-the-counter. Without case, my ReBop 5-string cost a roll of dimes more than the Sabre [also retail]. But has anything actual cost $350 or less? Sure: a pair of Guild B602s, a Fender Mustang RI and a beautiful Musicmaster hotrod, just stickin with the USA stuff. Imports? Too many to name.

But people do weird things. If someone wants a MM-looking ax, upgraded, and $350 shipped with case, done deal, is about what they had in mind, POP! & Bingo. The birth rate has greatly increased since the days of PT Barnum, and as they say at the Chevy store "There's an ass for every seat".

If it doesn't sell as-is, the upgrades are non-intrusive and can be removed to use for another project or to be sold seperately, and then you peddle the OLP as a normal used OLP.

You be suprised at the money I've got on Ebay for what you guys(myself included) consider junk. I sold a no named J-bass without case for $300. I sold a few frankenbasses that I made with parts that were either free or cost very little for $300+.

as far as backups go ... i have 2 Sterlings. Do i take them both to gigs? hell no. The reason I don't is because, IMHO, there's just too much expensive stuff to keep an eye on. This "worrying" might be specific to my situation (kind of places my band plays, type of crowds we draw etc)

I always take a "beater" as a backup. I make sure my main axe is "taken care of", the battery has juice etc. IF soemthing really bad goes wrong I'll end up using a crappy bass for 1/2 a gig. that's ok with me .... the tradeoff is worth it to me.

That's a good call. I do lock my case in strange places though, so I suppose it wouldn't be a huge deal to pick up a bike lock to secure any bass cases to the handle of my cabinet or something like that before/after we play.

Just a suggestion...if you don't already:

Keep pictures of all your stuff, as well as the serial numbers. I do this...and I print out little labels with my Name, address, and phone number. I take those and stick them somewhere where noone would EVER think to look for it. You can use your imagination with hiding spots.

At least you can prove it's yours if it gets stolen and ends up in a pawn shop or music store. Or these days, on eBay...
