Bad Fret On My Bongo?

I picked up a Bongo five-string about a month back while visiting relatives in Ohio. A couple weeks after getting back to CT, I noticed that there's something wrong with the 22nd fret on my bass. I really don't play up there much, which is why I didn't notice it when I purchased the bass. The notes at the 22nd fret on the B, E, D, and G strings buzz, and the note on the A string doesn't sound at all. In fact, the sound that comes out is almost like a choked F#, the note from the fret below it. The 23rd and 24th frets don't buzz at all, so I don't think it's a high fret, but I don't know what the exact issue is. Any ideas? Is this something that occassionally pops up on Bongos?

If you are getting buzz up in that area it is generally the fret in front of the one you are actually playing on that is causing the problem. So if it is the 22nd fret you are noticing it on means the 23rd fret is the high one. And that is why the 23rd and 24th would play fine, because the 23rd is higher than 24th.

Or the 22nd could be too low, and the rest around it are fine. Having a small straight edge on hand you would be able to find out if it is the 23rd or 22nd fret causing the problem.

Don't have anything to add, but if you can't figure it out yourself, call EB customer service and they will be glad to help you out. I'm glad to see you here, I was hoping that somebody would invite you or that you would find your way over here eventually.
And yes, that is one of the more golden looking DG's I have seen.

Thanks Darrin and Paul- most of my tools are in storage, but I'll see if I can dig up a true straightedge somewhere. I'll call EB if it's not something that a local luthier could fix in a couple minutes, but otherwise I won't bother them with a minor issue on an otherwise fantastic bass.

You could get Jack's, but you would probably have to distract him by getting somebody to play Higher Ground on his flame Bongo while you make a run for it with his SR5.
